HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #09653 .~-' ` , ,~ ORDINANCE NO. 965 AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC AT THE INTERSECTION OF ELM STREET AND ELEVENTH AVENUE IN THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is in the best interest of the City of Canton to regulate traffic and the intersection of Elm Street and Eleventh Avenue in the City of Canton, Illinois; and, WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows: 1. That stop signs be placed at each of the Northeast Corner and the Southwest Corner of the intersection of Elm Street and Eleventh Avenue in the City of Canton, Illinois so that whenever a driver of a vehicle heading either East or West on Elm Street shall approach Eleventh Avenue he shall bring his vehicle to a complete stop and then proceed with caution when a safe interval occurs. These stop signs shall replace the temporary stop signs now there located due to construction. 2. That the stop signs previously placed at the Northwest Corner and the Southeast Corner of Elm Street and Eleventh Avenue requiring Northbound and Southbound traffic on Eleventh Avenue to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Elm Street and Eleventh Avenue shall be removed so as to allow unregulated traffic flow in a North and South direction at said intersection. That, to this extent, Section 1 of Ordinance #454 passed by the Canton City Council on March 26, 1974 is hereby repealed. That, in all other particulars, said Ordinance #454 is hereby reconfirmed, reapproved and ratified. 3. That the proper officials of this City shall take all actions appropriate to effectuate the intendment of this Ordinance. 4. That any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be punished by a fine of not less than $25.00 nor more than $500.00 for each offense. 5. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
