HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #1113~~,~ ~~i-~~, ORDINANCE NO. 1 113 AN ORDINANCE CLASSIFYING FIRE INVESTIGATOR JOHN L. STANKO A PEACE OFFICER BY THE CITY OF CAN'T'ON. Wf~REAS, 8501, Chapter 1272, Illinois Revised Statutes (®501, Ch. 1272, I11. Rev. Stat. 1983) provides that political subdivisions of the State of Illinios may classify a sworn member of its fire department a peace officer as therein provided; and, Wes, Fire Investigator John L. Stanko of the City of Canton Fire De- partment is: a. A sworn member of the City of Canton Fire Department; b. Is authorized to investigate fires or explosions for the City of Canton; and, WfiEREAS, the City of Canton's Fire Department is an organized and paid fire department; and, Wf~EtEAS, the Canton City Council has determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to classify Fire Investigator John L. Stanko a Peace Officer of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. NOW, TfiEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CAN`I'ON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: 1. That the Cannon City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact. 2. That the Canton City Council hereby finds that Fire Investigator John L. Stanko has satisfactorily completed a training program offered or approved by the I11ir~ois~Loca1 Gaverrunental .Law Enforcement Officers ~t~rainang tsc~aru wiiic;ii auuo~.cui- tially conforms to'standards promoulgated pursuant to the Illinois Police Training Act and "An Act in relation to firearms training for peace officers", approved August 29, 1975, as amended, and, has satisfactorily completed a course in fire and arson investigation approved by the Office of the State Fire Marshall pursuant to the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act. 3. 7.'hat Fire Investigator John L. Stanko is hereby classified a peace officer of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and shall possess the same powers of arrest, search and seizure and the securing and service of warrants as sheriffs of counties, and police officers within the jurisdiction of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. 4. That Fire Investigator John L. Stanko, while in the actual investigation of fires, explosions, or, suspected arsons, and matters incident theretA, may carry a sidearm as may be necessary and in conformity with the requirements, rules, and regulations relating to sidearms carried by members of the City of Canton Police Department. 5. That this Ordinance shall be in full force an its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, and approval by the Mayer thereof.
