ORDINANCE NO. 1871
AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A WARNING LIGHT ON AVENUE B AND TWO
ADDITIONAL STOP SIGNS ON AVENUE B AT THE INTERSECTION OF AVENUE B
AND EAST MAPLE STREET IN THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY,
ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Public Safety and Traffic Committee has determined that it is necessary
and in the best interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to place a warning light on Avenue B
prior to approaching the intersection of Avenue B and East Maple Street and for providing two
additional stop signs on Avenue B at the intersection of Avenue B and East Maple Street in the
City of Canton, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That a flashing warning light shall be placed at the top of the hill on Avenue B prior to
the intersection of Avenue B and East Maple Street that will caution northbound drivers
of the approaching four-way stop.
2. That a stop sign shall be placed at the southeast corner of the intersection of Avenue B
and East Maple Street in the City of Canton, Illinois, and that every driver of a motor
vehicle approaching said intersection from the South on Avenue B shall bring the vehicle
under his or her control to a complete stop before entering said intersection and shall only
then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic.
That a stop sign shall be placed at the northwest corner of the intersection of Avenue B
and East Maple Street in the City of Canton, Illinois, and that every driver of a motor
vehicle approaching said intersection from the North on Avenue B shall bring the vehicle
under his or her control to a complete stop before entering said intersection and shall only
then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic.
4. That a stop sign currently exists at the northeast corner of the intersection of Avenue B
and Maple Street in the City of Canton, Illinois.
5. That a stop sign currently exists at the southwest corner of the intersection of Avenue B
and Maple Street in the City of Canton, Illinois.
6. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction or plea, be subject to
a fine of not less than Seventy-five ($75.00) nor more than Five Hundred ($500.00)
dollars for each such offense.

7. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the
City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor
thereof, and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
