A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND ESTABLISHING THE CANTON BICENTENNIAL CONSTITUTION
COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the year 198? will mark the 200th anniversary of the United States
Constitution; and,
WHEREAS, this anniversary is one of historic magnitude, one that will find
commemorative activities throughout the country; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Canton may receive official state and national recognition
as a "Bicentennial Community".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON,
Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby authorizes and creates a commission
to be known as .the "Canton Bicen*_ennial Constitution Commission" whose membership
shall be broad-based and representative of the community at large.
2. That the Mayor shall appoint such persons to said Commission as he shall
deem appropriate.
3. That said Commission shall be responsible far initiating and/or coordinating
community activities in celebration of said anniversary.
~+. That said Commission shall be responsible for its own funding and its debts
shall never constitute an obligation of the City of Canton, or, of any City official.
5. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately after
its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and
approval by the-Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 7 th day of OC t0 ber 1986 upon a roll call vote as
follows:
AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Zilly Steck, Sarff, Bohler, May,
Chapman.
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: Alderman Workman.
