A RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF CANTON'S POSITION TO WELCOME
AND APPROVE THE PLACEMENT OF A FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN
FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, on the 16th day of September, 1986, the City
Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois approved
Resolution No. 1177 entitled "A Resolution Approving and
Welcoming the Placement of a Federal Correctional Facility in
Fulton County, Illinois"; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has been made aware that
the Fulton County Economic Development Corporation is submitting
a revised proposal to the Federal Bureau of Corrections; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has been made aware that
the Federal Bureau of Corrections is considering the possibility
of placing a facility in Central Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has debated and considered
the placement of such a federal correctional facility in Fulton
County, Illinois; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, UPON CONSIDERATION, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County Illinois, as
follows:
1. That the City of City of Canton reaffirms its position
to approve and welcome the placement of such a federal
correctional facility in Fulton County, Illinois, upon terms and
conditions hereinaf ter to be agreed to by Fulton County, Illinois
and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
2. That the placement of a federal correctional facility in
Fulton County, Illinois would be in the best interest of the City
of Canton, Fulton County, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
3. That the City Clerk of the City of Canton is hereby
directed and instructed to send three (3) certified copies of
this Resolution to the Fulton County Economic Development
Corporation who will composite the information and forward it on
to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
4. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton,
Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois, and APPROVED by the Mayor thereof this 5th
day of April ~ 19 88 , upon a roll call vote as
follows:
AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Steck, Sarff, May, Chapman.
NAYS: None,
ABSENT: Aldermen Zi11y, Meade, Bohler,
