HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution #3026-ARESOLIITION N0. ~~7ti_~ ~_._~_-- WHEREAS the City of Canton encouraged the creation of a citizens committee to address racial and ethnic issues; and, WHEREAS interested local citizens have gathered and formed the Coalition for Equality, a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Illinois; and, WHEREAS, the Coalition has organized to address Adult and Youth Education, Affirmative Action/Community Liaison, Community Resources, and Organization and Objectives; and, WHEREAS it has and is conducting educational and awareness activities in the community; and, WHEREAS it is assisting in the search for appropriate learning resources to be used with all interested groups; and, WHEREAS efforts to foster racial and ethnic harmony need continuing support from community leaders; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois as follows: 1. That the City has expressed its intention to continue to encourage equal treatment for all persons regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or creed; and, 2. That the City Council announces to the people of Canton that it supports community efforts to develop an appreciation of our varied heritage and to improve relations among the people of our community. 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois phis 7th day of November, 1990 upon a roll call vote as follows: AYES: Aldermen Fuller, Steck, Sarf~, I~Zeade, May, Fuller. NAYS: None. ABSENT: Aldermen Kovachevich, Bohler. APPROVED: G ~' Donald Edwards, Mayor Attest: Nanc White , City Clerk.
