AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PROVISIONS FOR
CONTRACTS FOR PUBLIC IIVIPROVEMENTS
WHEREAS, there has been a change in the statutes of the State of Illinois pertaining to the
requirement for public bidding on certain contracts for work or other public improvements by 65
ILCS 5/8-9-1, and,
WHEREAS, under the changes made, the threshold level has been changed from $10,000.00 to
$20,000.00, and,
WHEREAS, the current Canton City Code in Section 8-2-1 requires bidding on all contracts for
public improvements in the city in excess of $10,000.00, and,
WHEREAS, it appears desirable to have the Canton City Code be consistent with the Illinois
Statutes,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois as
follows:
1, That Section 8-2-1 of the Canton City Code shall be amended to increase the threshold amount
from $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 as the requirement for letting to the lowest responsible bidder for
any work or other public improvement or on contracts for the making of any public improvement
in the city which is not to be paid in whole or in part by special assessment or special taxation.
All prior ordinances or resolutions or parts thereof inconsistent with the foregoing are hereby
repealed.
3. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon passage and publication or posting thereof
as required by law.
3. Passed at a regular meeting of the Canton City Council by the vote shown and on the date
