RESOLUTION N0. 2091
A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR DICgSON MOUNDS
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois proposes closing displays at
Dickson Mounds to the general public; and,
WHEREAS, existing displays, to include excavated burial
mounds, have been on exhibit to the general public for many
decades; and,
WHEREAS, said exhibits have been treated with reverence and
respect by the general public; and,
WHEREAS, said exhibits have become an integral part of the
history and culture of the greater Fulton County area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the foregoing
recitals to be fact.
2. That the Canton City Council supports efforts to keep
the present Dickson Mounds display open to the public.
3. That the Canton City Council is of the opinion that
general public opinion is a proper barometer in determining the
appropriateness of keeping said exhibits open to the public.
4. That the Canton City Clerk is hereby directed to certify
copies of this Resolution to Representative Thomas J. Homer, to
State Senator Richard Luft, to the Department of Energy and
Natural Resources, to Governor Thompson, and to the Chairman,
Fulton County Board.
5. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 16th day of January,
1990.
AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Zilly, Steck, Sarff, Meade,
Bohler, May, Chapman.
NAYS: None.
