RESOLIITION N0. 3040
A RESOLIITION TO PETITION THE STATE OF ILLINOIS FOR ACCESS TO
INTERSTATE 74 AT ILLINOIS 78
Tr1HEREAS, historically cities have developed commercially
because of good transportation, such as rivers, railroads, and
good roads; and,
WHEREAS, interstate roads are the latest development for
good roads;
ti~1HEREAS, Illinois 78 crosses Interstate 74;
WHEREAS, cities such as Canton, Farmington and Elmwood lie
to the South of Interstate 74 on Illinois 78;
WHEREAS, these cities do not have access to Interstate 74
where Illinois 78 crosses Interstate 74;
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Service headquartered in Canton
do not have a quick access to Interstate 74 in case of an accident
on Interstate 74; and,
WHEREAS, the citizens of Canton feel deprived of an access,
and believe it is long overdue to have access to Interstate 74 at
Illinois 78.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUPdCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the foregoing
recitals to be fact.
2. That the Canton City Council hereby petitions the State
of Illinois to provide public vehicular access onto Interstate
Route 74 at its intersection with State Route 78.
3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of
Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 19th day of
March , 1991 upon a roll call vote as follot~rs:
AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Steck, Saxff, Meade, Bohler, May,
Chapman.
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: None. Cne alderman has resigned.
