HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #11494 .~ ORDINANCE N0.1149 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A STOP SIGN AT THE EAST EXIT OF THE CITY PARKING LOT AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF MAIN AND LOCUST. WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee of the Canton City Council has determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to place a stop sign at the east exit of the City's parking lot at the Southwest corner of Main and Locust. The parking lot being adjacent to the North by West Locust Street and adjacent to the East by North Main Street; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows: 1. That a stop sign shall be placed at the East exit of said lot so that every driver of a motor vehicle approaching said exit east bound shall bring the vehicle under his control to a complete stop before entering traffic on North Main Street and shall only then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic. 2. That the Street Superintendent shall post an appropriate sign informing the public of this Ordinance. 3. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) nor more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for each such offense. 4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10 ) days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approved by the Mayor thereof, and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 16 day of June 1987, upon a roll call vote as follows: y AYES: Aldermen Kovachevich, Zilly, Sarff, Meade, May, Chapman.
