HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #1283 . . ~• ORDINANCE NO . 12 8 3 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 1, CHAPTER 6, SECTION 12 OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE PRESENCE OF A QUORUM TO DO BUSINESS WHEREAS, the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined that it is necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend Title 1, Chapter 6, Section 12 of the Canton Municipal Code as hereinafter set forth in order to comply with State law; and, WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: 1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact. 2. That Title 1, Chapter 6, Section 12 of the Canton Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "1-6-12: QUORUM: (A) A majority of the corporate authorities, that is, of the Aldermen and the Mayor, shall constitute a quorum of the City Council sufficient to do business; (B) a majority of the Aldermen assigned to a committee, including the Mayor, shall constitute a quorum of the committee sufficient to do business. In either case, a smaller number may adjourn from time to time, and may compel the attendance of absentees, under penalties prescribed in Section 13 of this Chapter." 3. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor thereof.
