HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #1303~-. :, ORDINANCE N0. 1303 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 8, CHAPTER 18, SECTION 1 OF THE CANTON MONICIPAL CODE RELATING TO A GARBAGE SERVICE CHARGE WHEREAS, the Streets and Garbage Committee has determined and found that the Fulton County Landfill has and is continuing to raise tippage fees which raise(s) require, in turn, the raise of the municipal garbage service charge; and, WHEREAS, said committee has further found that, at present and anticipated future tippage rates, it is advantageous to the City of Canton to continue to use the Fulton County Landfill; and, WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has made similar determinations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: 1. That the foregoing recitals are hereby found to be fact. 2. That it is necessary and in the best interest of the City of Canton that its garbage service charge be raised by the sum of $0.25 per month ($0.50 per billing period). 3. That, accordingly, Title 8, Chapter 18, Section 1 of the Canton Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "8-18-1: SERVICE CHARGE: The Canton City Council hereby establishes a service charge, in addition to the levy of a garbage tax, to finance the establishment and maintenance of plants for the collection and disposal or solely for the collection or solely for the disposal of garbage, refuse and ashes by a service charge of one dollar and seventy-five cents ($1.75) per month to be collected from persons receiving such service.~~ /~. That the amended charge provided for in this Ordinance shall become effective February 1, 1991, the effective date of the Fulton County Landfill tipping fee increase. 5. That this Ordinance shall become effective immediately " ~- "~ i upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor thereof. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 19th day of February, 1991, upon a roll call vote as follows: AYES: Aldermen Chapman, Bohler, Meade, Sarff, Steck.
