AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PROVISION 9-5-5 RELATIVE TO PARKING IN THE
CITY OF CANTON,ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Municipal Code and the City of Canton Code, the City of
Canton has the authority to determine the use of its roadways and to designate appropriate
parking and no parking areas within its municipal boundaries; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton has determined that an update is
required for the safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Canton to add two (2) hour
parking to certain roadways in the City of Canton pertaining to Ordinance 9-5-4.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Canton,
Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
SECTION 1:
"9-5-4: TIME LIMIT PARKING AND OVERNIGHT PARKING:
(A) Except on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays, it shall be unlawful to park any vehicle from the
time period of eight o'clock (8:00) A.M. to five o'clock (5:00) P.M., for more than two (2)
hours in any designated restricted parking area. Additionally, except on Saturdays, Sundays
or holidays, it shall be unlawful to park any vehicle from the time period of eight o'clock
(8:00) A.M. to five o'clock (5:00) P.M., for more than two (2) hours on West Pine Street
between Avenue A and Main Street on both sides of the road, in addition to South Main
Street between Pine Street and Walnut Street.
(B) It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle overnight on any day of the week or holidays at
certain locations parallel and running adjacent to the City Square. Overnight shall be defined
for these purposes as parking from one o'clock (1:00) A.M. until six o'clock (6:00) A.M. It
shall be unlawful to park overnight at the following locations:
Chestnut Street from Avenue A to 1 st Avenue;
Elm Street from Avenue A to 1 st Avenue;
Main Street from Locust Street to Pine Street;
East Side Square from Chestnut to Elm Street; and
White Court from Elm Street to Pine Street."
SECTION 2 — That upon passage of this amendment, the City Clerk shall be instructed
to submit to the Codifiers or Municipal Ordinance the said Ordinance amendment for insertion in
its proper place and each copy of this Code within thirty (30)days of its final passage.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular
meeting this 15" day of January, 2019 upon a roll call vote as follows:
