HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution #3175~+i D RE901-IJTIaV ~D. 3175 A RE90LlJf I aV SUPPORT I I~G TI-E PL.~K.aF]VT aF A SI~EF~A~C I M.,M STATE OORRECT I ~L FACILITY I N OR NEAR TI-E CITY OF CAN1~V, FULTON OOINTY, I LL I ND I S W-EREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois has been made aware of the Illinois Department of Corrections' intentions to determine a location for the construction of a supermaximum state correctional facility; and, W-EREAS, the Community and Industrial Development Committee of the Canton City Council has determined that it is desirous and in the best interest of the City of Canton to support the placement of a supermaxim~um state correctional facility in or near the City of Canton, Illinois; and, W-EREAS, the Canton City Council has made a similar determination. That the Canton City Council supports the placement of a supermaxium correctional facility in or near the City of Canton, Illinois. 2. That the placement of the supermaxium state correctional facility in or near the City of Canton would be in the best interest of both the City of Canton and of the State of Illinois Department of Corrections. 3. That the City of Canton supports the placement of such a state correctional facility in or near the City of Canton upon terms and conditions hereinafter to be agreed upon by the City of Canton and the Illinois Department of Corrections. That the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to send copies of this resolution as notification to the area legislators, senators, and, to the Illinois Department of Corrections of the support from the City Council for the placement of the correctional facility in the immediate area. 5. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois.
