WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom and mercy has seen
fit to remove Mrs. J. Grant Davis, the beloved wife of our
honorable Mayor, and
WHEREAS, this has resulted in a distinct loss of a civic
and religious leader of our community as well as an irreparable
loss to our esteemed mayor, and
WHEREAS, it is deemed fitting and proper that the respect
of this body be paid to the memory of the deceased,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CANTON, ILLINOIS:
That the sincere regret of this body is hereby expressed at
the loss of our respected and beloved citizen; and the deep sym-
pathy of this body is hereby tendered to our Honorable Mayor in
this, histour of bereavement. !

That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the records
of this body and that a copy thereof be transmitted to the Hon-
orable J. Grant Davis by the City Clerk.
Passed by the City Council this 7th day of March, A. D. 1940.
