RESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS, the Illinois Bell Telephone Company is now operating
within the City of Canton; and, whereas, there is apparently a wide spread
demand for an investigation of the present rate schedules of said company
with the view that a downward reduction thereof may be had; and whereas,
the City Council is informed that requests of this noture have been lodged
with the Illinois Commerce Commission; and whereas, it seems fitting and
proper that the City Council join in a request for such action;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, ILLINOIS:
Sec. 1. That the Illinois Commerce Commission be and hereby is
requested on its own motion to inquire into and investigate the present
rate structure of the Illinois Bell Telephone Company as the same is present-
ly maintainedin the City of Canton and to make any reduction therein that
may be deemed advisable.
Sec. 2. That the City of Canton does hereby join in with other
petitioners in this request.
Sec. 3. Th .t a copy of this resolution be transmitted by the
City Clerk to the Illinois Commerce Commission; and that the Mayor be and
he hereby is directed to take such other action as may be necessary to
further the object of this resolution, and that he hereby is authorized to
appoint a committee of the City Council to join him in this action.
Passed by the City Council and Approved by the Mayor this 7th
day of March, A. D. 1940.
