ORDINANCE NO. 1635
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A PARKING STALL EXCLUSIVELY FOR
TAXIS ON SOUTH MAIN STREET AND RESCINDING AN ORDINANCE
ESTABLISHING TWO 15 MINUTE PARKING SPACES IN THE SAME AREA
WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 1547, the City of Canton established two 15
minute parking spaces on the West side of South Main Street between Elm Street and
Pine Street; and,
WHEREAS, the spaces were designed to accomodate the customers of the
Canton Newstand; and,
WHF,RF,AST the Canton. Newstand has moved from South Main Street to East
Elm Street; and,
WHEREAS, a taxi only parking place is needed in downtown Canton.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. The foregoing recitals of fact are correct.
2. That Ordinance No. 1547 is no longer necessary and the same be and is hereby
repealed.
3. That the northerly parking space of the two former 15 minute parking spaces be
and the same is declared to be a parking space to be utilized only by commercial taxis with
current license of the state and city.
4. That the parking of vehicles in this space other than commercial taxis be and
the same is hereby prohibited.
5. That a violation of this ordinance shall be penalized by a fine of not less than
$50.00 nor more than $100.00 per violation.
6._ That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (1Q) days after its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the
Mayor thereof; and publication in pamphlet form as provided bylaw.

PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 5th day of October , 1999, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Hartford, Sarff, Nidffer, Meade, Shores.
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: Aldern~exi Nblleck, Phillips, N1ay.
