HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance #1565=!"- ORDINANCE NO. 1565 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CANTON ZONING ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR MINI STORAGE FACILITIES IN THE B-2 DISTRICT WHEREAS, the Canton Zoning Ordinance allows storage only in the industrial districts (I-1 and I-2), and, WHEREAS, it appears desirable to allow mini-storage units in the B-2 general district as a special use on plots of not less than one (1) acre, and, WHEREAS, such uses should not be permitted in the B-3 (Central Business District) District. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS: That the foregoing recitals are found to be fact. 2. That the Planning and Zoning Commission of the City has unanimously approved the proposed amendments. 3. The Canton Zoning code is amended as follows: a. Section 10-1-2 (Definitions) is amended to add the following definition: "Mini Storage": An unattended structure containing four or more seperately partitioned rental units to be used exclusively for the storage of personal property by the public where the renter has direct access to the rental unit at all times. b. Section 10-9-3 (Special Use Exceptions) is amended by adding the following sub paragraph: (I) Mini storage facilities on a plot of not less than one acre. c. Section 10-10-2 (A) is amended by adding the following language: "...provided however that mini storage units shall not be permitted in the B-3 district". 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approved by the Mayor thereof and publication as provided by law.
