Access can be found via www.iprf.com, then click on the green "Member Services Login" button on the right hand side of the page. Log in using your member number (1444) as the username, then iprf (lowercase) as the password. You will then be prompted to change password. It is recommended to use the email address as the login and keeping iprf as the password. It was recommended that each committee member login to the system and become familiar with the site and the training information before the next committee meeting. INITIAL REVIEW OF THE SAFETY MANUAL A copy of the (working draft) safety manual was distributed to all committee members for review. It was suggested that everyone read section 1 (introduction) and II ( accountability for safety) and come back to the next committee meeting with comments and discussion. OVERVIEW OF TRAINING PLATFORM FOR EMPLOYEES(OSHA REQUIREMENTS) The Illinois OSHA requirements were distributed for review- list of required training to be performed by each department. Department heads are responsible for creating a training schedule to be certain that the OSHA training requirements are met. A copy of the training schedule for each department should be submitted to City Clerk Diana Pavley-Rock. Diana is to contact IPRF to see if the training is required in each calendar year or annually from the last training period. Diana will report back after information is obtained from Jeff Swanson. OVERVIEW OF ACCIDENTS/CLAIMS Diana Pavley-Rock distributed a list of all claims from May 1, 2017 to the current date. Each claim was reviewed and discussion took place regarding the cause of accident and possible prevention measures. The committee would like to see a comparison of the number of claims from other municipalities compared to the City of Canton to have a good idea on where we are for loss control. Keith Grant discussed the possibility of having a different type of gun belt. Gun belts can often create problems with the hip after wearing the belt for several years. A new type of gun belt could be worn around the chest area and could possibly eliminate problems associated with gun belts worn at the hip. Keith will have additional conversation with Public Safety Director Richard Fairburn about the possibility of changing the gun belts. SITE REVIEW AND INSPECTION Discussion took place about holding the safety committee meetings at various locations within the City's departments so a site review could be performed by the committee at the end of each meeting . The committee would perform a safety inspection to help detect potential safety hazards and make corrections to potential problems. RISK REMINDERS As part of the regular safety committee meetings risk reminders will be a regular part of the agenda. Committee members are responsible for distributing risk reminders to their fellow co- workers and discuss safety measures to prevent potential accidents. A risk reminder for slips and falls was distributed and is to be shared within each department. OTHER BUSINESS Committee members requested to receive training on the fundamentals of work comp reporting and handling of claims. Diana Pavley-Rock will contact IPRF to see if training can be arranged. This will be placed on the next agenda for follow up. Committee members also asked how often the representative from IPRF (Jeff Swanson) would be at the City building to review information and training schedules. Diana Pavley-Rock will contact Jeff and request quarterly visits. The committee asked if the training for fire extinguisher training could be conducted by the fire department personnel rather than online training. Diana Pavley-Rock will verify that this would be acceptable with IPRF and will report back at the next safety committee meeting. ADJOURNMENT The safety committee adjourned without any further discussion. Future meeting dates will be set and committee members will be notified and provided a copy of the upcoming agenda.
