AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PROVISION 9-5-4 PERTAINING TO PARKING TIME
LIMITS IN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, Pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/1-2-1.1, 65 ILCS 11-40-1, and 65 ILCS 11-80-1 and
any other applicable provisions of the Illinois Municipal Code, the City Council of the City of
Canton has the power to regular and prescribe time limits for parking and overall traffic
regulations within the City limits within its municipal boundaries;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton has determined that provision 9-5-4
should be revised to make all area parking consistent for time limit purposes and to adjust the
time for appropriate activities to be undertaken while properly and legally parking under said
provision and therefore, provision 9-5-4 should be modified from its current regulation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Canton,
Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
SECTION 1: PROVISION 9-5-4: TIME LIMIT PARKING: of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Canton is hereby amended to read as follows:
9-5-4: TIME LIMIT PARKING AND OVERNIGHT PARKING:
(A)Except on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays, it shall be unlawful to park any vehicle from
the time period of (8:00) A.M. to (5:00) P.M., for more than two (2) hours in any
designated restricted parking area.
(B)It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle overnight on any day of the week or holidays at
certain locations parallel and running adjacent to the City Square. Overnight shall be
defined for these purposes as parking from 1:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. It shall be unlawful
to park overnight at the following locations:
Chestnut Street from Avenue A to 1m Avenue;
Elm Street from Avenue A to 1 n Avenue;
Main Street from Locust Street to Pine Street;
East Side Square from Chestnut to Elm Street; and
White Court from Elm Street to Pine Street
SECTION 2: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days from and
after its publication in one or more newspapers published in the City of Canton in accordance
with 65 ILCS 5/1-2-4. Such publication must take place within thirty (30) days after passage of
this Ordinance.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular
meeting this 5th day of July, 2017 upon a roll call vote as follows:
