ORDINANCE NO. 15 3 8
AN ORDINANCE CLASSIFYING FIRE INVESTIGATOR BONNIE CREMER A
PEACE OFFICER BY THE CITY OF CANTON.
WHEREAS, 20 ILCS 2910/1, (Ill. Comp. Stat.) provides that a political
subdivision of the State of Illinois may classify a sworn member of its organized and paid
fire department a peace officer as therein provided; and,
WHEREAS, Fire Investigator Bonnie A. Cremer of the City of Canton Fire
Department is:
a. A sworn member of the City of Canton Fire Department;
b. Authorized to investigate fires or explosions for the City of Canton; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Canton's Fire Department is an organized and paid fire
department; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has determined that it is necessary and in
the best interest of the City of Canton to classify Fire Investigator Bonnie A. Cremer a
Peace Officer of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That the Canton City Council hereby finds that Fire Investigator Bonnie A.
Cremer has satisfactorily completed a training program offered or approved by the Illinois
Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officers Training Board which substantially
conforms to standards promulgated pursuant to the Illinois Police Training Act and "An
Act in relation to firearms training for peace officers", approved August 29, 1975, as
amended, and, has satisfactorily completed a course in fire and arson investigation
approved by the Office of the State Fire Marshall pursuant to the Illinois Fire Protection
Training Act.

3. That Fire Investigator Bonnie Cremer is hereby classified a peace officer of the
City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and shall possess the same powers of arrest,
search and seizure and the securing and service of warrants as sheriffs of counties, and
police officers within the jurisdiction of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois.
4. That Fire Investigator Bonnie Cremer, while in the actual investigation of fires,
explosions, or, suspected arsons, and matters incident thereto, may carry a sidearm as may
be necessary and in conformity with the requirements, rules, and regulations relating to
sidearms carried by members of the City of Canton Police Department.
5. That the powers set forth herein for such peace officer may be exercised only
during the actual investigation of the course, origin and circumstances of such fires or
explosions that are suspected to be arson or arson-related crimes.
6. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by
the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 18th day of March, 1997, upon a roll call vote as follows:
