A RESOLUTION REQUESTING CLARIFICATION OF THE STATUS OF THE BNSF
RAILWAY FROM MAPLE STREET WITHIN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS TO
BRERETON, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, the Lakes, Buildings and Grounds Committee recognizes that the BNSF Railway
from Maple Street within the City of Canton, Illinois to Brereton, Illinois has had minimal usage in
past years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Canton is undertaking a comprehensive planning process for our
community; and
WHEREAS, the comprehensive planning process is hindered by the uncertain status of this
railway; and
WHEREAS, the City is requesting that BNSF either activate or abandon this section of
railway; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Council finds as facts the recitals hereinabove set forth.
2. That this Resolution will be forwarded to BNSF with a request for clarification on the
status of the railway between Maple Street in the City of Canton, Illinois to Brereton, Illinois.
3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by
the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by a majority vote of the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and
APPROVED by the Mayor thereof this 6th day of February , 2007, upon a
roll call vote as follows:
