A RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH THE TERMS OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE
CONSTRUCTIO OF THE CANTON PARK DISTRICT TRAIL INCLUDING NORTH
MAIN STREET,LINDEN STREET, AND NORTH FOURTH AVENUE IN CANTON,
ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council held a special meeting on September 27, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, at that special meeting the Canton Park District Director Jon Johnson
presented information relating to the trail that the Canton Park District originally proposed in
2008, but has since had to modify; and
WHEREAS, the Canton Park District has received approval from the Illinois Department
of Transportation for the placement and design of said trail; and
WHEREAS, the course of the trail will exit the Big Creek Park exit on North Main
Street and run north along North Main on the east side of North Main. This part of the trail will
consist of concrete; and
WHEREAS, the trail will turn east on Linden Street and run on the south side of Linden
Street to Fourth Avenue where it will then turn south on Fourth Avenue until it reaches Athletic
Park; and
WHEREAS,the trail will consist of concrete along Linden Street; and
WHEREAS, the trail will consist of 48" shoulders on the east and west sides of Fourth
Avenue and shall be composed of blacktop or concrete; and
WHEREAS, the Canton Park District will maintain the trail in perpetuity;
WHEREAS, the Canton Park District made this proposal and presentation to the City of
Canton and whereas the City Council has determined that it will support such trail system and
the proposal that was set forth by the Canton Park District.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON,ILLINOIS,AS FOLLOWS:
I. That the City of Canton supports the Canton Park District trail on North Main Street, Linden
Street, and North Fourth Avenue as described in the "Canton Park District Bicycle and Pedestrian
Trail Plan and Profile"attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit"A" is hereby approved
by the Canton City Council.

2. The City of Canton has not pledged any funds towards the construction or maintenance of the
trail.
3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois at a regular meeting this 4TH day of October,
2016 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Justin Nelson,Gerald Ellis,John Lovell,Angela Hale, Craig West,Tad
Putrich, Ryan Mayhew
