ORDINANCE NO. 4019
ORDINANCE ABOLISHING TITLE 1 (ADMINISTRATION) CHAPTER 24
(DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY) OF THE CITY OF CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, Title 1 (Administration), Chapter 24 (Director of Public Safety) of the City
of Canton Municipal Code allows for the position of a director of public safety; and
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee has determined that for organizational
purposes, it is in the best interests of the citizens of Canton to restructure the City's
administrative makeup; and
WHEREAS,the Legal and Ordinance Committee has determined the restructuring of the
administration should include the abolishment of the position of the director of public safety and
investing the powers of that position in the police and fire chief; and
WHEREAS,the Legal and Ordinance Committee has reviewed the proposed amendment
to the Municipal Code of the City of Canton and concur that the amendment is necessary and in
the best interest of the administration of the City of Canton, its employees and citizens;
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS as follows:
1. That Title 1 (Administration), Chapter 24 (Director of Public Safety) of the Canton
2. Municipal Code shall be repealed in its entirety.
PASSED by the City Council of the City Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular meeting
this 5th day of January 2016, upon roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Alderman West, Putrich, Jim Nelson, Mayhew, Ellis, Lovell, Hale
NAYS: None
ABSENT: Alderman Justin Nelson
ABSTAIN: None
