ORDINANCE NO. 4020
ORDINANCE AMENDING OF TITLE 5 (FIRE REGULATIONS) CHAPTER I (FIRE
DEPARTMENT; ADMINISTRATION) SECTION 1 (DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED)
OF THE CANTON MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, Ordinance 3020 was adopted by the City of Canton on July 2, 2013,
amending Section 5-1-1 which provided for a director of public safety within the organization of
the City of Canton administration, and;
WHEREAS,the Legal and Ordinance Committee has reviewed the proposed amendment
and concur that it is in the best interests of the administration of the City of Canton, its
employees and citizens to reinstate the administration of the Fire Department with the Fire Chief
reporting directly to the Mayor as was done prior to the establishment of the position of public
safety director;
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS as follows:
1. That Title 5 (Fire Regulation) Chapter I (Fire Department; Administration) Section 1
(Department Established) of the Canton Municipal Code shall be amended as follow:
5-1-1: DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED: There is hereby established an executive
department of the municipal government of the city which shall be known as the fire
department, and may consist of up to the fire chief, three (3) assistant chiefs, three (3)
lieutenants and ten(10) firefighters.
PASSED by the City Council of the City Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular
meeting this 5th day of January 2016, upon roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Alderman West, Putrich, Jim Nelson, Mayhew, Ellis, Lovell, Hale
NAYS: None
ABSENT: Alderman Justin Nelson
ABSTAIN: None
