AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE (BUSINESS REGULATIONS)
CHAPTER 21 (MUNICIPAL UTILITY TAX)
SECTION 3 (PERSONS EXEMPTED FROM TAX)
WHEREAS, the Legal & Ordinance Committee has determined that it is in the best
interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois, to amend Title (Business Regulations) Chapter 21
(Municipal Utility Tax) Section 3 (Persons Exempted From Tax); and
WHEREAS, the City of Canton is desirous of exercising its authority to exempt
municipally owned properties from the municipal utility tax; and
WHEREAS, in furtherance of its statutory powers to amend the Municipal Code for the
City of Canton, the City Council and the Mayor have determined that it is the best interest of the
City to exempt municipally owned properties from such tax.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Mayor and the City Council for the city of
Canton, Illinois, as follows:
1. The City of Canton Municipal Code, Title 3 entitled "Business Regulations" is amended
by amending Chapter 21 entitled "Municipal Utility Tax" Section 3 entitled "Persons
Exempted From Tax" by amending the title of Section 3 and adding subsection (C) and
such amended Section shall read as follows:
3-21-3: EXEMPTIONS FROM TAX:
(C) Accounts that are owned by the City of Canton shall be exempt from the
municipal utility tax imposed in Title 3, Chapter 21.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approved by the Mayor
thereof this 15th day of September 2015, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Tad Putrich, Ryan Mayhew,Justin Nelson, Gerald Ellis,
Angela Hale
NAYS: None
ABSENT: Alderman Craig West, Jim Nelson,John Lovell

further certify that on September 15, 2015 , the City Council of such
municipality passed and approved Ordinance No. 4006 , entitled:
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE (BUSINESS REGULATIONS) CHAPTER 21
(MUNICIPAL UTILITY TAX) SECTION 3 ( PERSONS EXEMPTED FROM TAX)
which proved by its terms that it should be published in pamphlet form.
The pamphlet for Ordinance No. 4006 , including the Ordinance and a cover
sheet thereof, was prepared, and a copy of such Ordinance was posted at City Hall,
2 North Main Street Canton IL, commencing on September 16, 2015 , and
continuing for at least ten days thereafter. Copies of such Ordinance were also
available for public inspection upon request in the Office of the City Clerk.
