AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR STOP SIGNS ON HOWARD PLACE AT THE
INTERSECTION OF HOWARD PLACE AND THIRD AVENUE IN THE CITY OF CANTON,
FULTON COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Public Safety and Traffic Committee has determined that it is necessary and
in the best interest of the citizens of Canton, Illinois to place a stop signs on Howard Place at the
intersection of Howard Place and Third Avenue in the City of Canton, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has made a similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows:
1. That a stop sign shall be placed at the northeast corner of the intersection of Howard Place and
Third Avenue and that every driver of a motor vehicle approaching said intersection from the
East proceeding West shall bring the vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop before
entering said intersection and shall only then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic.
2. That a stop sign shall be placed at the southwest corner of the intersection of Howard Place and
Third Avenue and that every driver of a motor vehicle approaching said intersection from the
West proceeding East shall bring the vehicle under his or her control to a complete stop before
entering said intersection and shall only then proceed when a safe interval occurs in traffic.
3. That any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction or plea, be subject to a fine
of not less than Seventy-five ($75.00) nor more than Five Hundred ($500.00) dollars for each
such offense.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten (10) days after its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and
publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a regular meeting this
18thday of November , 2008 upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES• Aldermen Lewis, Strandberg, Ihnes, Nidiffer, West, Sarff,
' Berardi, Schenck.
