AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND COMPENSATION FOR
THE DEPUTY CLERK/DEPUTY TREASURER FOR THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/3.1-35-90 and 65 ILCS 5/3.1-35-95, the City of Canton,
acting through its City Council, is authorized to assign duties to the City Clerk and Deputy
Clerk/Deputy Treasurer, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that in order to provide continuity and efficient
administration of the City's various insurance policies, including, but not limited to their health, dental,
life, worker's compensation, property/casualty and portable equipment, it is necessary and in the best
interests of the employees and citizens of the City of Canton to centralize responsibility for said
policies into one position, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the Deputy Clerk/Deputy Treasurer is the
position most capable of centralizing and coordinating said policies, and
WHEREAS, the Deputy Clerk/Deputy Treasurer's position should receive additional
compensation for these increased duties.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois, as
follows:
1. That the City Council is authorized to assign duties to the City Clerk and Deputy Clerk/Deputy
Treasurer.
2. That the Deputy Clerk/Deputy Treasurer shall be responsible for the coordination and clerical
oversight of the City's insurance policies, including, but not limited to health, dental, life,
worker's compensation, property/casualty and portable equipment and other human resource
duties as assigned.
3. That the Deputy Clerk/Deputy Treasurer's position will have a pay increase from $26,073 to
$32,000, thereby amending Ordinance No. 1934, passed June 3, 2008. Said pay increase is
neither retroactive to nor inclusive of the beginning of the fiscal year, but will take effect upon
passage of this Ordinance.
4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois and approved by the Mayor thereof this
18th day of November , 2008, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES• Aldermen Schenck, Sarff, West, Nidiffer, Ihnes, Strandberg,
• Lewis.
NAYS: Alderman Berardi .
