HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-04-1969 Council Meeting Minutes 114 Mar. 4, 1969 Canton City Council held a regular meeting on March 4, 1969 in the City Council Chamber. Mayor goods called the meeting to order at 500 P. M. Present for roll calls Aldermen Howard, Farr, Svob, Sepich, Long, Ellis, Kroell, Spencer, Yerbic, Danner, and George. Absent, illness: Aldermen Rusnak, Jacobs, and Skinner. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Invocation by Alderman Danner. Motion by Alderman Kroell, seconded by Alderman Yerbic to dispense with reading of minutes of previous meeting, accept same and place on file. Voice vote. Carried. Mayor Woods reported that an error had been made in the Jan. 7, 1969 meeting minutes, the appointment of Merlin Feldner to the Greenwood Cemetery Board should have been for five years. Motion by Alderman Spencer, seconded by Alderman Sepich, that the correction be confirmed. Roll call vote. Aldermen George, Danner, Yerbic, Spencer, Kroell, Ellis, Long, Sepich, Svob, Farr, and Howard voting AYE. NAY: None. Bills for February presented. Motion by Alderman Long, seconded by Alderman Ellis that all bills properly approved be allowed for payment. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Howard, Farr, Svob, Sepich, Long, Ellis, Kroell, Spencer, Yerbic, Danner, and George. NAY: None. Reports of officers read. Alderman Long moves, Alderman Danner seconds motion to accept same and place on file. Carried by voice vote.- Standing committee reports. Off-street parking discussion to be held in the C.I.P.S.Co. building at 7:30 P. M. announced by Alderman Kroell. Anyone interested, invited to attend. Alderman Ellis read report from Crawford, Bunte, & Roden, Traffic Engineers - map also inclosed with recommendation that the Mayor, Chief of Police and Traffic Committee review and discuss the suggestions. Alderman Ellis stated these suggestions were in line with things he has been trying to accomplish and asked the Mayor's recommendation for handling same. Mayor Woods stated that an informal meeting of the Council with Mr. Bunte would be advisable. Meeting of Finance Committee and any interested Alderman, the Mayor and City Treasurer at 4=00 P. M., Mar. 5 in the City building. Announcement of Municipal Assoc. of Central Region meeting, Tsar. 12, 700 P. M. Table Grove. Mayor Woods reported that Snider Herrin would speak on legislature. Special committees. Communications to Council. Thank-you notes from Everett Howard and the family of Esther L. Keime for flowers. Request from V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary to sell Buddy Poppies, May 16 and 17. Motion by Alderman Farr, seconded by Alderman Svob that permission be given to sell Buddy Poppies. Carried by voice vote. Request from the Am. Assoc. of University Women to hold the annual Book Fair May 3 (rain date May 10) in Jones Park. Motion by Alderman Sepich, seconded by Alderman Danner that the request be granted. Voice vote, carried. Old business. Report of Mr. LangBelder on construction projects in city. Div. 12 (no, from Walnut St.) sewer was started on Mar. 3; most projects completed except for clean-up - which will be donuts soon as weather permits. Report by Alderman Farr that water shut-off valves were showing above sidewalks on W. Vine St. and asked if they could be lowered on account of accidents. Mr. Harold White, Plumbing Inspector stated he will see what can be done. New business. Estimate No. 6, Sewer Construction, Div. 9A and 9B, Normoyle-Berg & Associates, $31,483.30. Motion by Alderman Long, seconded by Alderman Sepich that estimate be allowed. Roll call vote. Aldermen George, Danner, Yerbic, Spencer, Kroell, Ellis, Long, Sepich, Svob, Farr, and Howard. NAY: None. Canvass of Primary Election votes. Alderman Howard moves, Alderman Danner seconds motion that same be approved and placed on file. Roll call vote.
