HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-15-1968 Council Meeting Minutes 9 Canton City Council held a regular meeting on Oct. 153 1968 in'the Oct Chamber. Mayor Woods ,called the meeting to order at 5:31 P. M. Present for roll calls Aldermen Rusnak, Howard, Farr, Svobp Jacobs, Sepich, Skinner, Long, Ellis, Kroell, Spencer, Yerbic, Danner and George, Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Invocation by Alderman Danner, Alderman Kroell moves, Alderman Long seconds motion that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted and placed on file. Voice vote. Carried. ! Standing committee reports. r Alderman Long reported that the Water & Sewer Committee and City Engineer had inspected the sewer on Fulton Place and found it to be in good condition. He stated that there was an overflow and no backing up of water. Alderman Ellis reported that he had hoped to have a representative from the Traffic Engineering Firm at this Council meeting but had received a letter from Bill Bunte that he would be in Denver. Alderman Ellis stated that a representative of the firm would be working on a survey in Canton this week. Mr. Bunte will attend the next Council meeting to be held November 12, 1968. lf� Mayor Woods suggested that the South Park Greater Neighborhood Renewal Plan be d� converted to a Neighborhood Development Program. He stated that this Program would be more suitable than one restricted to one area. Alderman Ellis stated that he thought preliminary planning should be done before any application is made. Discussion. Alderman Howard moves, Alderman Ellis "seconds motion authorizing the Mayor to make inquiries of the Chicago office of U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development about a Neighborhood Development Program. Carried by voice vote. Alderman Danner moves; Alderman George seconds motion to cancel South Park Renewal Plana Roll Call vote. AYE: Aldermen George, Danner, Yerbic, Spencer, Kroell, Ellis, 'Long, Jacobs, Svob, Farr, Howard and Rusnak. NAY: Aldermen Skinner and Sepich. (12 AYES and 2 NAYS). Motion carried. Progress report by Ozzie Langfelder, Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Engineering Firms Mr. Langfelder apologized to the parents, teachers and students on conditions of East Ash St.; stated that the sidewalk to the YMCA, should be completed this week. He also stated that the West Walnut Street sewer project is ahead of schedule and should be completed by the end of the month; an earth-fill for a new bridge over Big Creek on West Vine Street should be finished in two weeks; 600 feet of curb and gutter have been installed on East Chestnut Street. Discussion, Special Committees, Alderman Sepich reported on Easements for Walnut & Locust Street project. He stated that there were 17 easements to be obtained; 7 have already signed; 7 indicated that they would sign and they are working on 3. Alderman Sepich stated that he thought all easements should be signed within, a week. Alderman Howard asked why the City Clerk could not advertise for bids as soon as the easements are all signed. City Attorney McMunn stated that it would not be legal. Discussion. Mayor Woods reported on the Illinois Municipal League State Convention. Communications. Letter from YMCA Board of Directors requesting permission to hold a candy sale. Alderman Danner moves, Alderman Kroell seconds motion that request be granted. Voice vote. Carried. Letter from YWCA to hold a bake sale October 26, 1968 read. Alderman Rusnak moves, Alderman Svob seconds motion that request be granted. Voice vote. Carried. Old Business. Agreement with the Canton Park District for tract of land along North Fourth Ave. extension to be used as a"roadway. City Attorney McMunn reported on the progress of his discussion with Mr. Chester Claudon, City Attorney McMunn will report on this Agreement at next Council meeting. 9 Oct. 15, 1968 (Cont. (2) Alderman Kroell complimented the Toledo, Peoria & Western Railroad on the repairs made at the First Avenue Crossing, Alderman Danner suggested that the Mayor write a letter to the Railroad thanking them for the repairs made. Alderman George asked City Attorney McMunn for a report on the alley between 8th and 9th Avenue and Olive and Ash Streets. Discussion. Motion by Alderman Ellis, seconded by Alderman Long'to adjourn.
