HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-17-1967 Council Meeting Minutes 32 Oct. 17, 1967 Canton City Cauncil' held a regular meeting on Oct. 17, 1967 in the City Council Chamber. Mayor' Woods called the meeting to order at 7:00 P. M.. Ppesent for roll call; Aldermen Rusnak, Howard, Farr, Svob, Jacobs, Sepich, Skinner, Long, Ellis, Kroell, Spencer, Yerbic, Danner, and George. Absent: None. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Danner. Motion by A]otrman Kroell, seconded by Alderman Ellis to accept the minutes of the previous meeting and place on file. Carried by voice vote. Standing committee reports. City scales are in need of approximately $2,000.00 repair -- Alderman Long stated they should be placed at an angle, nearer the old water tower, for better access, also. that new scales would cost approximately $6,000.00. Mayor Woods asked that the Finance, Water and Sewer Committees investigate and report to the next meeting. Meeting of the Lake.Development Committee 6:30 P. M. Oct. 18 announced by Alderman Jacobs. Mayor Woods reported the appointment of Glen Harjes to replace'Wm. Fouts on the Citizens Advisory Committee. Alderman Farr moves, Alderman Jacobs seconds motion to confirm this appointment. Roll tail vote. AYE; Aldermen George, Danner, Yerbic, Spencer, Kroell, Ellis, Long, Skinner, Sepich, Jacobs, Svob, Farr, Howard,, and Rusnak. NAY: None.. Alderman Ellis moves that the City Council rescind the action taken regarding the dog in question.at the last Council meeting; Alderman Yerbic seconds this motion. Defending the action, Alderman Danner stated the settlement was made, not for the dog, but in the manner in which same was killed -- on the owners property and.wi.thout his knowledge and stated that rescinding this _ action was condoning a city employee. Roll call vote on the motion. AYE: Aldermen Rusnak., Howard, Farr, Svob, Long, Ellis, Kroell, Spencer, and Yerbic. NAY: Aldermen Jacobs, Sepich, Skinner, Danner, and George. (9 AYES and 5 NAYS). Carried. Special committees. . Alderman Farr reported that the Good Year Tire Co. has been conducting part of their tire business. on the sidewalk and on the street (First Avenue. Mayor Woods recommended that the matter be referred to the Police and Legal and Traffic Committees. Communications to Council. Thank you note from the Matthew Sepich family for flowers. Request for demotion to police patrolman by Glen McMullen accepted by the Board of Fire and Police Commission. Letter to be filed. Resignation of Glen. McMullen as acting Police Sergeant to accept Police Patrolman on days -- referred to the Council by the Fire and Police Commission. To be filed. Appointment of Raymond Widger as Police Sergeant, effe dive Oct. 14, 1967 by. the Fire and Police Commission. To be filed. Canton Union School-District No. 66 request for traffic signal 'light to be placed on Laurel Drive instea& of Lincoln Road. Alderman'Spencer moves, Alder- man Ellis seconds motion to accept same and place on file. Suggestion by Al- derman Howard to hold another meeting with' the Council committee and the School Board. Voice votb on the motion. Carried. Alderman Howard moves, Alderman Sepich seconds motion that the Council meet with the School Board for further discussion. Old business. Alderman Howard moves, Alder- man Jacobs seconds motion to accept same and place on file. Carried by voice vote. Sidewalks in the vicinity of the Swan School next item on the agenda. No representatives present -- subject not discussed. Mayor Woods reported that between 950 - 1000 feet thirty-inch storm sewer the could be installed for approximately $15,,000.00 on the west side of North Main Street to alleviate the water damage to those properties in that area. The Mayor also reported on the status of the federal grant for sewer- age system in Canton. Alderman Howard moves that the City Engineer complete plans and specifications and obtain easements for this storm sewer work. Al- derman Yerbic seconds the motion. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen George, Danner, Yerbic, Spencer, Kroell, Ellis, Long, Skinner, Jacobs, Svob, Farr, Howard, and Rusnak. NAY: Alderman Sepich. (13 AYES and 1 NAY). Carried. ;..
