HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-18-1967 Council Meeting Minutes 1 � July 1.8, 1967 Canton City Council held a regular meeting on July 18y 1967'in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Woods called the meeting to order at 7:00 P- M. Present for roll call: Aldermen Rusnak, Farr, Svob, Jacobs, Sepich, Skinner, Long, Ellis, Kroell, and Danner. Absent: Aldermen Howard, Spencer, Yerbic and George. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Danner. Minutes of previous meeting. Alderman Kroell moves, Alderman Jacobs seconds motion that minutes be accepted as presented and placed on file. Carried by Mayor Woods called for reports of standing committees. A meeting of the Lake Development Committee immediately following the Council meeting was announced by Alderman Jacobs. Traffic Committee: Alderman Ellis reported on a new type of traffic stri, L on a trial basis in front of the Police station and als o reported that the committee decided to delay action on the Petition for a four-way stop sign on Anderson Place and Seventh Av. until more of the committee.members could be consulted. Name plates for past Mayors' pictures were added was announced by Alderman Rusnak. City Engineer Gibbons reported that the for storm water removal -- Eleventi[ Avenue, Pine and Elm St,, approximately $1,000.00; Elm St.,Chestnut St. and Ninth Ave. approx- imately $5,500.00. Alderman Kroell moves, Alderman Danner seconds motion to refer this matter to the Water and Sewer and the Street and Alley Committees to make plans. Carried by voice vote. Mayor Woods called for reservations to the Municipal League Convention, Sept. 23-26. Special committees. Communications. Letter from the Dept. of Public Health concerning the deficiencies at the Taylor and Jones Tniler Courts and requested a reply within fifteen days from date of letter. Alderman Long moves, Alderman Ellis seconds motion to refer this letter to the Chief of Police. Carried by voice vote. Mayor Woods announced the necessity of being prepared for an emergency by drafting an Ordinance which would enable the city to employ three additional policemen and six firemen. Alderman Farr moves, Alderman Jacobs seconds motion that the City Attorney be instructed to draft these two Ordinances. Carried by voice vote. Request for extension of lease of city building basement for use of the Junior Achievement, Inc. Alderman Rusnak moves, Alderman Farr seconds motion to extend said Aldermen Danner, Kroell, Ellis, Long, Skinner, Sepich, lease. Roll call vote. AYE: Jacobs, Svob, Farr, and Rusnak. NAY: None. Motion carried. Resolution approving execution of contract for-planning grant for urban-planning assistance for Canton with Scruggs and Hammond, Inc. Alderman Sepich moves to dis- pense with reading of this Resolution since it had been read at the previous meeting, Alderman Rusnak seconds same. Carried by voice vote. Alderman'Ellis moves, Alderman Kroell seconds motion to adopt this Resolution. Roll- call-vote. AYE: Aldermen Rus- nak, Farr, Svob, Jacobs, Sepich, Skinner', Long, Ellis, Kroell, and Danner. NAY: None. Carried. This being Resolution No. 4584 Second reading of Ordinance to vacate a portion of Hemlock Terrace. Alderman Long moves, Alderman Jacobs seconds motion to read same by title only. Carried by voice vote. Title read. Alderman Farr moves, Alderman Svob seconds motion to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Danner, Kroell, Ellis, Long, Skinner, Sepich, Jacobs, Svob, Farr, and Rusnak. NAY. None. Ordinance N6.219. Report of the Board of Trustees of the Firements Pension Fund for year ending April 30, 1067 read. Alderman Long moves, Alderman Danner seconds motion to accept same and place on file. Carried by voice vote. Report of Board of Trustees of Police Pension Fund for year ending place p . 3on 19677 read. Motion by Alderman Long, seconded by Alderman Ja cob o accept Carried by voice vote. First reading: Ordinance, no parking, Ave. B from Elm to Pine St. Same to lay over.
