HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-07-1967 Council Meeting Minutes i 460 Mar. 7, 1967 Canton City Council held a regular meeting March 7, 1967 in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Woods called the meeting to order at 7:00 Pe M. Present for roll call: Alder- men Howard, Rusnak, Svob, Farr2 Whitehead, Jacobs, Long, Skinner, . Kroell, Ellis, Yer- bic, Spencer, George, and Danner. Absent: None. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Danner. Motion by Alderman.Kroell, seconded by Alderman Yerbic to accept the minutes of the previous meeting. - Unanimous vote of approval. Petition signed by the twelve employees of the Fire Department," requesting increase in salary, vacation and clothing allowance. Alderman George makes motion to refer this Petition to the Finance Committee, City Attorney, the Mayor and Council for study. Alderman Jacobs seconds the motion. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous, No. 140. Motion by Alderman Long that all bills properly approved by allowed for payment., seconded by Alderman Farr Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Reports of all officers read. Alderman Long moves, Alderman Svob seconds motion to accept same and place on file. -Voice vote of approval. Mayor Woods calls for reports of standing committees. Alderman Long stated that pipe needed to be purchased for water mains, approximately $12,000.00 and makes a motion that the Water and Sewer Committee be allowed to accept the lowest responsible bidder and report back to the City Council. Alderman Kroell seconds this motion. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Woods called for reports of special committees. Report of the Mayorts meeting in Chicago with the Illinois Municipal League Board -- the state has been divided into eight sections, Canton being in Section Four; The Mayor delegated as liaison offieer for Mayors with the state through the League. Mayor Woods stated that the legislature was working on many bills that are of interest to the municipalities. Communications to Council. Letter from R.A. Cullinan & Son, Tremont, Illinois stating they would repair a street which that company had damaged. Letter to be filed. Mayor Woods recommendations in regards to pay increase and other benefits for city employees read. Alderman Jacobs makes motion, Alderman Svob seconds same that the proposal be referred to the Finance Committee, City Attorney and-Council for study. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Discussion regarding pay increase. Report of Canvassing Board read by City Clerk. Motion by Alderman Long, seconded by Alderman Farr to accept the report. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Resolution approving application for preliminary loan for low-rent public housing read. Alderman Danner makes motion to adopt this Resolution, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Resolution No. 445. Amendment No. One, to Cooperation Agreement to include one hundred units of law-rent housing. Motion by Alderman Yerbic, seconded by Alderman Jacobs that the Mayor and City Clerk enter into this Agreement on behalf of th City of Canton. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Agreement No. 125. � $ �`�� First reading of an Ordinance prohibiting abandoned vehicles. Motion to Alderman Farr, seconded by Alderman Rusnak to suspend the rules. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Motion by Alderman Spencer to amend section 4 to read stone week" instead of 24 hours, seconded by Alderman Sionob. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Motion by Alderman Farr, seconded by Alderman Rusnak to place the Ordinance, as amended, on its passage. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Ordinance No. 198. First reading of an Ordinance authorizing the water department to fluoridate the city's water system. Same to lay over. Alderman Ellis makes motion, Alderman yerbic seconds same to adjourn.
