HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-21-1967 Council Meeting Minutes 459 Feb. 21, 1967 Canton City Council held a regular meeting on Feb. 21, 1967 in"the City Council Chamber. Mayor Woods called the meeting to order at 7:00 P. M. Present for roll call: Aldermen Howard, Rusnak, Svob, Farr, Whitehead, Jacobs, Long, Skinner, Kroell, Ellis, Yerbic, Spencer, George, and Danner. Absent: None. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Invocation by Alderman Danner. , Alderman Kroell moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted as presented and placed on file. Vote of approval. I Petition with thirty-seven signatures of residents on West Walnut Street objecting to "no parking" on West Walnut Street Ordinance recently passed. Alderman Skinner moves,, Alderman Rusnak seconds motion to refer this Petition to the Police and Legal, Traffic Committee and Chief of Police for study and report to the next meeting. Unanimous "Aye" vote. Petition No. 139. Mayor Woods called for reports of standing committees. An addendum prepared by Crawford, Murphy & Ti3ay Engineering Firm in accordance with the Division of Highways recommendations for engineering services on the pro- posed street improvement on Fifth Avenue, Locust and Main Streets presented. Al- "`: derman Howard moves, Alderman George seconds motion that the Mayor and City Clerk enter into this contract with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. ' (Attached to Agreement No. 120). Alterman Ellis reported complaints of traffic congestion on East Ash Street and Fifth Avenue, same to be checked'by the Chief of Police. Mayor Woods called for reports of special committees. Mayor.Woods called for communications to the Council. Announcement of the Municipal Association of Central Illinois moeting to be held March 1, 1967, 7:30 P. M., Town House, Havana. Aldermen urged to attend. Letter of thanks from the Temple Baptist Church for snow removal read. Thank you note from the family of,"Bob" Cook for flowers. Old business. Mrs. Tessie Almassi, President of the Junior Woman's Club, requested consideration for water fluoridation in the near future. (This being one of the project$ of that club). Alderman Danner moves, Alderman Spencer seconds motion for the Water and Sewer Committee to make a study of this program and report to the next Council meeting. Unanimous vote of approval. New business. Resolution for street light on Sebree Road read. Alderman Spencer moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion to adopt this Resolution. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Resolution No. 443, _Resolution for street light on Fourteenth Avenue, between Ash and Chestnut Streets. Alderman Spencer moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion to adopt this Resolution. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Resolution No. 444. Mayor Woods reported on the meeting held in Springfield Feb. 18, 1967, the Illinois Municipal League, regarding subjects brought before the legislation; consideration of more tax on liquor, tobacco and for motels, ,etc3 maintain the 32% MF'T for the municipalities; uniform municipal government; change of date of elections to Sept. and Nov.; Police training; licenses for all businesses; stabilize tax rate; increase power which had been deleted in the Hodge-Butler bill; and power for municipalities to accumulate funds for large purchases. Alderman Spencer moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion to adjourn. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Canton City Council adjourns at 7:28 P. M. City Clerk i
