HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-22-1966 Council Meeting Minutes 406 Apr. 12, 1966 Canton City Council held a regular meeting on April 12, 1966 in the City Council. Chamber. Mayor Woods called the meeting to order at 7:03 P. M. Present for roll call: Aldermen Howard, Rusnak, Farr, Long, Skinner, Kroell, Ellis, Spencer, George, and Danner. Absent: Aldermen Duncan, Whitehead, Jacobs, and Yerbic. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Danner. Alderman Long moves and Alderman Rusnak seconds motion that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted and placed on file. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Woods called for reports of standing committees. Alderman Farr stated that the Chief of Police and City Attorney inspected the trailer on North Twelfth Avenue, found that a permit to install water had been given on July 25, 1965, and also had a permit to place the trailer on said lot, however, the trailer is too close to the property line and the owner reported that the trailer would be moved. While making this investigation, it was found that two homes nearby were also in violation. Police and Legal Committee, the Mayor, City Attorney and Chief of Police to meet April 13, 1966, 4:00 P. M. Mayor Woods called for reports of special committees. Request from the Eagles Lodge to hold a tag day for the Heart Fund on May 7, 1966 read. Alderman Skinner moves and Alderman Kroell seconds motion to grant this permission. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Woods called for communications to the Council. Letter from the Department of Housing and Urban Development assigning the City of Canton a permanent- project number (WS-4-14-0077) and that the request for assistance is being reviewed. Same to be filed. Letter from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare stating that an inspection of the sewer connections will be made in about one month. Letter to be filed. Mayor Woods called for unfinished business. Second reading of an Ordinance pertaining to dates of Council meetings. Alder- man Howard moves, and Alderman Farr seconds motion to place this Ordinance on its passage. Alderman Long moves to amend the Ordinance ."should regular Council meeting date be on a holiday or election day, the Council meeting would be held on the following Tuesday". Alderman Ellis seconds this motion. . Roll call vote., on the amendment: AYE: Unanimous. Roll call vote on the original motion, as amended: AYE: Unanimous. This being Ordinance No. 173. Mayor Woods called for new business. Resolution for Transfer of funds read. Alderman Howard moves and Alderman George seconds motion to'adopt this Resolution. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Resolution No. 425. Mr. Howard Leinbaugh, Fulton County Safety Chairman told,the Council members of the proposed plans for Safety on the highways -- a three-year program in the making. During the discussion period following his talk, it was agreed that the Council meeting for April 19,, 1966 be held at 9:00 P. M. following the -Safety dinner meeting. Mr. Charles Taylor reported that the safety sign would be repainted and brought up to-date if the City Council would provide a place for same. Building and Grounds Committee to meet regarding this matter. Bonds with the Transamerica Insurance Co., $1,000.00 each, approved by the Finance Committee, for Leon Otto and JoAnn Freiley, School crossing guards presented. Alderman Ellis moves and Alderman Danner seconds motion to accept same and place on file. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. 407 Apr. 12, 1966, Cont. (2) First reading of an Ordinance -- increase in salaries. Alderman Howard moves and Alderman Farr seconds motion to suspend the rules. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Alderman Spencer moves and Alderman Rusnak seconds motion to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Ordinance ?\;o. 174. Quotations on pipe line for the water extension f o Northview Manor -- Alderman Long moves and Alderman Rusnak seconds motion to open and read these bids. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Bids read: Utility Sales Co. $3,281.51; Sidner Supply Co. $3,250.005 James B. Clow & Co. $3,185.50. Alderman Long moves and Alderman Spencer- seconds that these bids be referred to the Water & Sewer Committee for study and report to the Council. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Alderman Ellis moves and Alderman Rusnak seconds motion to adjourn until 9:00 P. M. on April 19, '1966. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Canton City Council adjourns at 7:57 P. M. ��Y C31 erk
