HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-15-1966 Council Meeting Minutes 395 Feb. 15, 1966 Canton ,City Council held a regular meeting on Feb. 15, 1966 in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Woods called the meeting to order at 7:00 P. M. Present for roll call: Aldermen Howard, Rusnak, Duncan, Farr, Whitehead, Jacobs, Long, Skinner, Kroell, Ellis, Yerbic, Spencer, and George. Absent: Alderman Danner. Pledge of .Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Long. i Alderman Jacobs moves and Alderman Long seconds motion that the minutes of the previous meeting be accepted and placed on file. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Petition of Rodney L. and Margaret A. Beadles requesting waiver of all in- terest charges for street assessments on Lot No. 4, Ritchey's Addition pre- sented. Alderman Howard moves, Alderman Duncan seconds motion to grant this Petition. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Petition No. 115. Mayor Woods called for reports of standing committees. Meeting of the Police and Legal Committee Wednesday, Feb. 16, 1966, 7:00 P.M. announced by Alderman Farr. Demonstration of sewer rodding ,to be made at 3:30 P. M., Feb. 16, announced by Alderman Long. (Demonstration-to be made on South Main Street and Thompson Court areas). ,Fire Chief Waddell reported on the gasoline in sewer scare recently and said same could be quite dangerous. Mr. Smith, General Agent from the Standard Oil Co. explained to the Council how this mishap occured, apoligized and stated that it would not happen again. Discussion about the Standard Oil Co. paying for expenses incurred at the time of each of these accidents. Alderman Jacobs requested that the Mayor and City Attorney make up a statement and send to the local agent. Alderman George reported that the City's Trailer Ordinance was very weak and reported that three Ordinances had been received from neighboring cities and should be referred to the Ordinance Committee for assistance in drafting a suitable Ordinance for Canton. Alderman Ellis reported that the car situation on Park Court had cleared. Mayor Woods called for reports of special committees, Communications to the Council and for unfinished business. None. Mayor Woods called for new business. Alderman Long moves and Alderman Kroell seconds motion that all bids for the sewer construction work in the Graham Hosnital area be rejected and the bide bonds be returned to the bidders, Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Reporting on the progress of easements for sewer construction on the west side of the City, City Attorney McMunn stated there was one more easement to be received, one person had not picked up the check in payment of his easemnnt, and Mr. Russell had not given a definite decision regarding his easement, but he thought it would be all right to get the work of advertising for bids under way. General discussion. Alderman Duncan moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion to adjourn. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Canton City Council adjourns at 7:30 P. M. �� City Clerk
