HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-11-1961 Council Meeting Minutes 45 SPECIAL MEETING July 11, 1961 A Special meeting of the Canton City Council was held July 11, 1961, 7:30 P. M. in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Cook called for Roll call, Present: Aldermen Howard, Sebree, Staley, Wright, Herbener, Hurst, Long, Jkinner, Gibbons, Abbott, Berry, Horton, and George. Absent: Alderman Bender. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by a prayer by Alderman Long. The City Clerk read the letter sent to all aldermen regarding the purpose of the Special Council meeting. 1. First reading and discussion of an Ordinance levying taxes for Corporate purposes -- for the fiscal year 1961-1962. 2. Consideration of the Final Estimate of the Caldwell Engineering Co. 3. Discussion of graveling and oiling streets in the City of Canton. C An Ordinance levying Taxes for Corporate Purposes of the City of Canton, ^� Illinois, for the Fiscal Year of said City, 1961-1962 was read for the first time. Same to be presented at the next regular Council meeting. V Discussion of the matter of oil and chins for the city streets. Alderman Staley recommended waiting another year when there would be more money avail- able for the work. Alderman Herbener explained the finances of the City. Alderman Howard also recommended waiting until next year for the project -- he then moves for a roll call vote of the Council's thoughts about waiting until next year to see what can be done -- in other words -- not to anticipate doing any oiling or chipping this year. This motion was seconded by Alderman Berry. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Berry, Abbott, Gibbons, Skinner, Long, Hurst, Herbener, Wright, Staley, Sebree, and Howard. NAY: Aldermen George and Horton. (11 AYES and 2 NAYS). Motion carried. The Eighth or Final Estima-te of the Caldwell Engineering Co. in the amount of $36,442.78 read. After some discussion and a telephone call to Alderman Bender, Alderman Long moves and Alderman George seconds the motion to allow this bill for payment. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Howard, Sebree, Staley, Wright, Herbener, Hurst, Long, Skinner, Gibbons, Abbott, Berry, Horton, and George. NAY: done. Motion carried. Regarding the odor still present at the sewer plant, it was suggested by Alderman Hurst that if the operator at the plant did not understand the operation of same fully, the engineer should be requested to instruct him. Alderman Herbener moves that amendment be made to the minutes of June 20 an insertion regarding the Appropriation Ordinance in order to comply with the law. This motion was seconded by Alderman Staley. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen George, Horton, Berry, Abbott, Gibbons, Skinner, Long, Hurst, Herbe- ner, Wright, Staley, Sebree, and Howard. STAY: - None. Motion carried. Alderman Long moves to adjourn, seconded by Alderman George. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Canton City Special Council meeting adjourned at 8:45 P. M. (� %w er k.
