HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-15-1960 Council Meeting Minutes y 43 4I Canton City Council met March 15, 1960, 7s06 P. M. in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Woods called for Roll Call. Presents Aldermen Martin, Howard, Chas. Wright, Staley, Jones, Herbener, W. Wright, Long, Shelby Wright, Gibbons, Hill, Berry, Bender, and George, Absents None. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. Alderman Martin requested that the motion regarding the Traffic Ordinance read "Tabled" instead of"Laid Over". Correction made and minutes approved to be placed on file. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by a Prayer by Alderman Long, Mayor Woods called for reports of Standing Committees: A Letter from Crawford, Murphy and Tilley regarding preliminary engineering services for potential development of sewer system on the fringe areas of Canton -- same to be furnished for the lump sum of $1500.00. Alderman Wm. Wright moves that the Mayor and City Clerk be instructed to enter into the con- ,:. tract with that firm, seconded by Alderman Shelby Wright. Roll call vote. AYES Aldermen George, Bender, Berry, Hill, Gibbons, Shelby Wright, Long, Wm. Wright, -x Herbener, Jones, Staley, Chas, Wright, Howard, and Martin. NAY: None. Motion carried. Alderman Howard moves and Alderman Berry seconds the motion to instruct the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into an agreement with White's Book Store for the purchase of furniture for the old library building -- bid price of same $2989.50. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Martin, Howard, Chas, Wright, Staley, Jones, Herbener, Wm. Wright, Long, Shelby Wright, Gibbons, Hill, Berry, Sender and George. NAY: None. Motion carried. Alderman Chas. Wright reported that the Chamber of Commerce had asked permission to hold a show on July 4 at Canton Lake -- to rope off a portion of the lake for this affair for three or four hours, Chamber of Commerce to be responsible for the insurance for the affair. Alderman Chas. Wright moves that permission be granted for use of a portion of the lake for that occasion, seconded by Alder- ' man Bender. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor hoods called for reports of Special C onmitteess Mayor Woods called for Communications to the Council: Letters regarding the Application for Federal Grant for Sewage Treatment Works were read. Alderman Wm. Wright moves, seconded by Alderman Jones, that same be accepted and placed on file. Oral vote. AYES Unanimous. Notice of Hearing of the Illinois Commerce Commission and C. B & Q. RR Apr, 7, 19602 10:00 A. M. in the State Office Bldg., Springfield, Ill. A Resolution for the placement of street light on Avenue C between Spruce St. and Cass Place. Alderman Staley moves for the Adoption of the Resolution, seconded by Alderman Bender. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen George, Bender, Berry, Hill, Gibbons, Shelby Wright, Long, Wm. Wright, Herbener, Jones, Staley, Chas, Wright, Howard, and Martin. NAY: None. Motion carried. " This being Resolution #263. A Resolution for the Transfer of Funds -- $8000.00 from the Public Comfort Station Fund to the General Fund. Alderman Martin moves for the adoption of this Resolution, seconded ty.Alderman George. Roll call vote. AYES Aldermen Martin, Howard, Chas. Wright, Staley, Jones, Wm. Wright, Long, Shelby Wright, Gibbons, Hill, Berry, and George. NAY: Alderman Herbener and Bender. (12 AYES and 2 NAYS). Motion carried. This being Resolution #264. Alderman Herbener moves to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Bender. Oral votes Motion declared carried. Canton City Council adjourned at 705 P. M.
