HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-17-1959 Council Meeting Minutes 4i Nov. 17, 1959 Canton City Council met Nov. 17, 1959, 7:03 P. M. in the City Council Chamber. Roll call. Present: Ma7or Woods, Aldermen Martin, Howard, Staley, Jones, Herbener, Wm. Wright, Gibbons, Hill, 'Berry, }Bender. Absent: Alderman Shelby Wright and Verge. Aldermen Chas. Wright and Long arriving at 7:25 P. M. linutes of the orbvious meeting were read and approved to 'oe placed on file. Fledge of Allegiance, followed by a prayer b7 Alderman Howard. Mayor Woods stated that because of the heavy agenda, the reports of the Illinois Municipal League Convention would be given at the next meeting. Mayor Woodd reported that the telephone pole at 1255 E. Chestnut Street had been ordered moved. Franchise with the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. expires on Nov. 19, 1959 -- Mayor Woods requested. the Legal Department to notify the Company; of same. Reports of Standing and Special Committeas were waived until the next meeting. A letter prom the Department of Public Health signed by C. W. Klassen, Chief Sanitary Engineer approving the changes in the plans for the proposed improve- ments in the waterworks was read and ordered placed on file. The American Surety Co. Bond for Fred V. Linder in the amount of $12,500.00 annroved by the Finance Committee was read. Alderman: Martin moves that the Bond be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Alderman `lender. Oral vote. AY": Unanimous. An Order for the Revision and Consolidation of the General Ordinances of the City of Canton, Illinois was read. Alderman Win. Wright moves that rules be suspended regarding the first reading of the Ordinance Book, seconded by Alder- man Gibbons. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Bender, Berry, Hill, Gibbons, Wm. Wright, Herbener, Jones, Staley, Howard, and Martin. NAT:: ?done. .'lotion carried. Alderman Bonder moves that the rules be suspended regarding; the reading; of the Ordinance Book, seconded by Alderman Berry. Roll call vote. AYE, Aldermen Martin, Howard, Staley, Jones, Herbener, Kv. Vright, Gibbons, Hill, Berry, and Bander. NAY: None. Motion carried. Alderman Bender moves that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Hill . Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Bender, Berry, Hill, Gibbons, Wm. Wright, .Herbener, Jones, Staley, }-Toward, and Martin. NAY: None. Motion carried. This being Ordinance No. 410. First reading of Anneal of all General Ordinances not included in the present Printed Ordinance as presented to the Council for approval. Alderman !Martin moved that the rules be suspended, seconded. by Alderman 3nder. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen ,Martin, Howard, Staley, Jones, Herbener, Wm. Wright, Gibbons, Hill, 3erry, and 'ender. NAY: "done. I'lotion carried. Alderman Bender moves and Alderman '-Toward seconds that tKe Ordinance be placed on its passage. Roll call. vote. AYE: Aldermen Bender, Berry, Hill, Gibbons, Wm. Wright, Herbener, Jonas, Staley, Howard, and Martin. MAY: Vone. Motion carried. This being Ordinance No. 411. First reading of an Ordinance Authorizing; and Providing for the Publication in Book form of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Canton, County of Fulton and State of Illinois. Alderman Bender movesthat the rules be suspended, seconded by Alderman Martin. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Martin, Howard, Chas. fright, Staley, Jones, Herbener, Wm. Wri7ht, Long, Gibbons, Hill, Berry and 3nder. TAY: ,gone. lotion carried. Alderman Bender moves that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Berry. Roll call vote. AYA: Aldermen Martin, Howard, Chas. Wright, Staley, Jones, Terbener, Wm. Wright, Long, Gibbons, Hill, Berry, and Bender. NAY: None. . Motion carried. This being Ordinance No. 412. Alderman Martin moves that the City Clerk be instructed to open sealed bids on the Waterworks Improvements, seconded by Alderman 5n. Wright. Oral. vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mr. Leonard Crawford, Consulting Engineer, Crawford, Murphy & Tilley, Springfield, volunteered to read and explain the various types of bids. After .reading of all bids, Mr. Crawford stated his firm had estimated a total. of `,'x,,206,529.00 for 16" mine for this work. Complete tabulation of the bids will be made by representatives of that firm -- work to be done in the City: Clerkts office. Alderman Herbener moves to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Bender.
