'resent: Mayor Woods, Alderman Sebree, Martin, Lundry, Miller, Jones, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. Absent: None. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved to be placed on file. A Petition requesting Annexation of Certain Territory to the City of Canton and an Ordinance regarding this Annexation was read for the first time. Alderman Lester Hill moved that the rules be suspended, seconded by Alderman Bender. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman 3ender3 Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Jones, Miller, Lundry, Martin, and Sebree. NAY: None. Alderman Bender made a motion that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Shelby Wright. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Lundry, Miller, Jones, Vh. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. NAY: None. Motion carried. This being Ordinance #388. A Resolution for Designation of Arterial Streets ".finder the Motor Fuel Tax -- Law was read. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Jones, Miller, Lundry, Martin, and Sebree. NAY: None. This being Resolution #234. Alderman Turner inquired if it would be possible to make street improvements on Elm Street from Fourth Avenue to Fifth Avenue. Mayor Woods stated that this program could possibly be worked out in the near future. Mayor Woods called for reports of Standing Committees: it 11 H it it Special Committees: It It it n Communications to the Council: Mayor Woods read a letter from Mr. C. Tallon, a bank president, Menominee, Wise. inquiring about th,-� road conditions of Route 78 leading through Canton. Alderman Turner made a motion that an Ordinance be drafted allowing compensation for overtime work for City em,,,Dloyees, seconded by Alderman Roy Hill. After some discussion, Alderman Turner withdrew his motion. Alderman Bender moved that the City advertise for bids for the redecorating of the old library building -- bids to be received not later than 5:00 '-'. I9i. on Jan. 6, 1959 and opened at the Council meeting that date. This motion was seconded by Alderman Lundry. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Woods stated that if the Council was in agreement, the City offices would close at 10:00 A. M. on Dec. 24. No opposition to this arrangement. Alderman Martin suggested that an Ordinance be drafted to suspend parking on one side of Martin Avenue between Walnut and Pine Streets, and to be read at the next Council meeting. A Resolution for naming of Polling Places and Judges for the seven Wards for the Primary Election to be held Feb. 24, 1959 and the General Election to be htld April 21, 1959 was read. Alderman Lundry moved for the adoption of this Resolution, seconded by Alderman Martin. Roll call vote. AYE,: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Lundry, Miller) Jones, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. NAY: None. Motion carried. This being Resolution #235. First reading of an Ordinance pertaining to the employment of a Census Taker for the newly acquired additions to Canton. Alderman Lundry moved that the rules be suspended, seconded by Alderman Bender. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright) Turner, Wm. Wright, Jones, Miller, Lundry, Martin, and Sebree. NAY: None. Motion carried. i 3t Alderman Martin moved that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Miller. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Lundry, Miller, Jones, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. NAY: None. Motion carried. This being Ordinance #389. Mayor Woods appointed Mr. Ray Williams for the position of Census Taker. Alderman Lundry moved that the appointment be confirmed, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call. vote. AY7: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Jones, Miller, Lundry, Martin, and Sebree. NAY: None. Motion carried. The Clerk read a letter from the Department of Public Health regarding the proposed improvements to the waterworks and also a letter from the Sanitary Water Board regarding sewage treatment additions and improvements to existing sewage treatment plant -- priority No. 18-59. Alderman Lester Hill moved that these letters be accepted and placed on file, seconded by Alderman Bender. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Alderman Jones stated that he would like to have a report from the Traffic Department at the next Council meeting regarding the Stop_ Signs on Walnut Street and Martin Avenue. Alderman Lundry moved that the Council adjourn, seconded by Alderman Jones. Jral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Canton City Council adjourned at 7:50 P. M. L City Clerk. V
