Mayor Woods called for reports of Standing Committees: I Alderman Turner reported that the Street and Alley Department had topped 183 trees and removed 235 trees during the month of June, 1958. The need for a permanent lighting arrangement in the Jones Park was mentioned b?; Mal Woods. Alderman Bender statedd that proper fixtures would soon be installed. Mayor Woods reported that the City's Lighting Contract needed to be re- newed and that a meeting with the C. I. P. S. Co. officials would be held July 7 at 7:00 M. Any new street lights needed should be reported by that time in order that cost of same could come under the new contract. Alderman Lester Hill inquired of Alderman Janos if any progress regarding Eleventh Avenut Street lights. After some discussion, Mayor Woods stated he would go Tsrith the committee to investigate this need for a street light and invited Alderman Lester `fill to accompany them. An invitation fo visiting Mayors and their wi:Ve; to attend a luncheon following the Friendship Festival Parade was suggested by Mayor Woods. Alderman Jones made a motion that visiting Tayors and their wives be invited to attend a luncheon as guests of the City Officials -- place to be decided later, seconded b,y Al_denr:ar_ j°.artin. Oral vote. AYE,: Unanimous. Alderman Bender made a motion that the City Council accept the lowest bid-- that of the Western Waterproofing Co. of Springfield, Ill., X2,573.00 for repairs to the old library* building and that the Mayor and City Clerk be instructbd to enter into a contract with that firm, seconded by Alderman Lister Hill. Mayor Woods then called for Special Committee Reports: Alderman Lester Hill reported that the Water and Sewer Committee and Fire Committee met some tame ago and made an agreement that ` 60.00 was to be charged for rural calls that were not included in the "Rural Fire Depart- ment Agreement" and that one-half of this sum was to be paid to the Fi..renen. Since that agreement, $210.00 has been collected. Ile made a motion teat X120.00 be paid to the Firemen as per that agreement, seconded by Alderman °ender. Roll call vote. A letter from the Muscular ')ystrophy Associations of America, Inc. regarding the November ca^apaign, was read and ordered to be "laced on file. A proposal for a trade-in on the Galion Hydro E.Z. Pack Garbage :disposal Truck was read. Alderman Lundry suggested this proposal be referred to the Garbage DisposalCommittee and report at the next meeting. A Joint Resolution to provide for the improvement of parts of fifth, Locust and North Main Streets in Canton -- signed by John_ D. Mattison, District Engineer of the Division of Highways was read. Alderman Turner moved that the Resolution be adopted, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call vote. AY: : Alderman Martin, Landry, t.:hn. Wright, Turner, Lester Hill, and Bender. NI�Y. : Alderman Sebree, Miller, Jones, Shelby Wright, and Roy Hill. Motion defeated. First reading of the Tax Levy Ordinance. Alderman Lundry moved that the rules be suspended, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Jones, Miller, Lundry, 11artin, and Sebree. NAY: None. Motion carried. Alderman Lundry moved that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Bender. Roll call vote. Mayor Woods reported that he had met with the Street and Alley Committee and the Township Road Committee on June 30 regarding the 7,,Test Vine Street Bridge. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved to be placed on file. Mayor Woods called for reports of standing Commit-Lees: Alderman Jones, reporting for the Lights Committee, made a motion that a street light be removed from in front of the Pan-Handle Gas station on Eleventh Avenue, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Jones, , Miller, Lundry, Martin and Sebree. NAY: "None. Motion carried. Alderman Jones made a motion recommending the placing of street lights on Sunview Terrace and Eleventh Avenue, Iris Court and Ash Street, Orchid Court and Ash Street, and at the end of VanDyke Drive, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Lundry, Miller, Jones, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, and Lester Hill. NAY: None. Motion carried. Mayor Woods then called for reports on Special Committees: Alderman Roy Hill stated that he had no definite report on the Garbage Disposal Truck project. Correspondence: A letter from the Illinois Inspection Bureau Fire Insurance Rates stating that the Canton Fire Department was still in the Seventh class rating and outlined nine recommendations to be carried out in order to be eligible for sixth class rating. Alderman Lundry moved that the letter of recommendations be accented and placed on file, seconded by Alderman Turner. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Motion carried. A letter dated July 11, 1958 from John D. Mattison, District Engineer of the Division of Highways was read -- with information regarding a public hearing to be held J­.ly 24, 1958 in the Junior High School Auditorium at 10:00 A. " . DST. Alderman Lester Hill moved that the letter be accepted and placed on file, seconded b,i Alderman Lundry. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous. Motion carried. A Quit Claim Deed "Canton Youth Organization to the City of Canton" was read. Alderman Lester Hill made a motion that this deed be accepted, seconded by Alderman Lundry. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Jones, Miller, Lundry,/, Martin and Sebree. NAY: None. Motion carried. A Resolution was read providing for the retirement of Municipal indebtedness by the use of Motor Fuel Tax funds for Section 39 CS, 41 CS, 1G2 CS, and 43 Cs __ total amount $242071.92. Alderman Lundry made a motion that the Resolution be adopted, seconded by Alderman Turner. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Lundr1l Miller, Jones, '�:hn. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, and Lester Hill. NAY: None. Notion carried. First reading of an Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement with the Central Illinois Public Service Co was read. This Ordinance was held over until the next meeting in order for time for study by the Council. Alderman Lundry made a motion for adjournment, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill.
