Roll call with the following present: I1ayor Woods, Alderman Sebree, Plartin, Swick, Landry, Miller, Jones, Tink, tiTn. tilright, Turner, Shelby Wr:iSht, Roy Hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. absent: _?one. Alderman Jones excused at 7:03 P. 14. Minutes of the previous rneetin- were read and approved to be placed on file. Mayor Foods asked for reports of the staidinr� committees: Alderman Martin rep_ orted on the Ordinance committee work -- that t-ey had two nrices offered by 19abc6ck Job I'r _ntery and the Peoria Daily record -- Babcoek price was $5.50 per 100 sheets without cover and the Peoria Daily Record was ''Y7.50 with covers, ma;.inE the rates annroximately the same. -'� Babcock said it would. take from twelve to fifteen months to comnlete the work -- book to contain about five '-undred nages. Attorne;;, I1ci,1u' nn said that if the Ordinance as read on 1,ov. , 1957 was passed, a contract would be .-* drawn up for annroval of the Council. ?Mayor Woods recommended that same be read at that time. Second read.in-• of an Ordinance pertaining to the "Printing of New Ordinance Books". Alderman Martin moved that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman !Bender. Roll call. Mayor Woods recommended the appointment of Attornevs McMunn and Russell_ Myers to draw up said contract for publishing Ordinance Books and sunervision of same. Alderman Lester Hill made a motion that the app)ointment be accented, seconded by Alderman Bender. Moll call vote. AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Swic''K, Landry, Miller, Tink, Wm. Alderman Lester Dill made a motion that 4 two-way radio costing annroximately $550.00 be installed in the Seagrave fire truck. Seconded by Alderman Li l dry. Roll call_ vote. Alderman Turner reported on the activities of the Street and Alley Department; that sever_ trees had been topped, thirty-nine had been removed, work on Quality Hill, VanD,rke Drive, South FarkV and the road to the City Dump had been completed. Alderman Lundx'y stated that a. great many business neonle suggested that the City of Canton have a reserve 500,000 gallon water tank and that a special referendum should be held. Attorney IicP4unn stated that recommen- dations for this project should be withheld pending .further study. Alderman Martin inquired about the motion made in June for assistance with the repair on the West Vine Street bridge. Mayor Woods informed him that he was ready to discuss this project whenever Mr. Sexton, Supt. of the Fulton County Highway Department, arranged for a meeting. Mayor Woods reported that Mrs. Frances Hill had. been recommended for Deputy City Clerk. Alderman Lund-r.- made a motion that this appointment be confirmed, seconded by Alderman Lester 'Till. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Swick, Lundry, ITiller, Tink, Wm. aright, Turner, Shelb,, Wright, Roy 'Till, Lester Tlill, and Sender. NAY: lone. Motion carried. Mayor Woods suggested that the City offices be closed at 10:00 A. N. on December 24. Alderman Lester Hill made a motion that these offices be closed, seconded bl, Alder:�an Sebrco. Verbal vote. AYE: Unanimous. Motion carried. Since Christmas Day was in the middle of the week, Mayor Woods recommend .d that the Garbage Disposal Department have that day as their holiday and that the newspapers publish a notice to that effect. (superseding contract of 8/27/57) A Contract with the American Pest Control, Inc. was reads Alderman Swick moved that the Mayor and City Clerk be instructed to enter into this agreement with the American Pest Control, Inc. Seconded by Alderman Lundry. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Tink, Miller, Lundry, Swick, Martin, and Sebree. NAY: None. Motion carried. Bonds were read for Harold R. Carlson, Plumber, Harry Luker, Plumber, Leonard N. Carper, Plumber, Oren W. Brown, Cemetery Custodian, Fred V. Linder, Treasurer for the Board of Cemetery Managers, and Frances L. Hill, Denuty City Clerk. Alderman Lundry made a motion that these bonds be accented and placed on file. Seconded by Alderman Ift. Wright. Verbal vote. AYE: Unanimous. Motion carried. An Ordinance pertaining to "Salaries of the Fire Department employees" was read. Alderman Bender made a motion that the rules be suspended, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call vote; AYE: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Swick, Lundry, Tink, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. NAY: ?Tone. i4otion carried. Alderman Swick moved that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Martin. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill.1 Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Tink, Miller, Lundry, Swick, Martin, and Sebree. NAY: None. ITotion carried. This being Ordinance #355. First reading of an Ordinance regarding"compensation for the public members of the Police Pension Fl_md." No action taken. First reading of an Ordinance regard ng "Compensation for the Members of the Fire and Police Commission". After some discussion, Alderman Lester Hill suggested that the finance, Police and Legal, and Water Committee meet and report at the next Council meeting. 1 First reading of an Ordinance "Granting Pay to Aldermen for the first Two Council Heetings Missed in Each Year". Alderman Bender moved that the rules be suspended, seconded by Alderman Lester Hill. Roll call vote. AYE: k1derman Sebree, Martin, Swick, Lundry, Tink, Wm. 1�7right, 'Turner, Shelby Wright., Roy Hill, Lester Hill, and Bender. NAY : Alderman Miller. Motion. carried. Alderman Martin moved that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Bender. Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester `fill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, W :. Wright, `Tiny, Miller, Lundr; , Swick, Ma °tin, and Sebree. NAY: .done motion carried. This being Ordinance #356. Second reading of an Ordinance pertaining to"Minors and Women Bartenders". Alderman Lester Hill made a motion that the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded by Alderman Wm. Wright. Roll call vote; AYr.: Aldernan Lundry,,, Z^Jm. Wright, Turner, Rohr Hill, and Lester Hill. NAY: Alderman Sebree, :,11artin, Swick, Miller, Tink, Shelby Wright, and Bender. notion defeated. Alderman Lundry made a motion for adjournment.
