M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Martin, Swick, Lundry, Miller, Jones, Tink, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill, Lester Hill and Bender. Absent: none. Bonds for Mayor Woods, City Clerk Nellie Crawford and City Treasurer Carl Hill were read. Alderman Miller .moved they be approved and placed on file, seconded by Alderman Lundry. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Bender, Lester Hill, Roy Hill, Shelby Wright, Turner, Wm. Wright, Tink, Jones, Miller, Lundry, Swick, Martin and Sebree. NAY: None. A letter of resignation of Alderman Lee Cook, Sixth Ward, was read by the City Clerk, Mr. Cook was elected Police Magistrate for the City of Canton on April 16, 1957. Alderman Lester Hill made a motion to accept this resignation, seconded by Alderman Jones. Verbal vote: AYE: Unaminous. First reading of Ordinance #f330 re: "Water and Sewer Department" Salaries of employees. Alderman Lester Hill made a motion that rules be suspended regarding the reading, seconded by Alderman Turner. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, .{ Martin, Swick, Lundry, Miller, Jones, Tink, Wm. Wright, Turner, Shelby Wright, ' Roy Hill, Lester Hill and Bender. NAY None. Mensing for disconnection of tract of land: as follows: l Part of the Northeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section 28, in Township 7 North, Range 4 East of the Fourth Principal Iieridian, in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, described as follows: Beginning at a point 40 rods South and 53 rods and 4 links West of the Northeast corner of said Southeast, nilarter of Section 29, Township 7 north, Range 4 East, and running thence East 206 feet, more or less, to the West line of land owned by Martin Heckard, thence Forth 190 feet, thence West 195 feet, more or less, thence Southwest to place of beginning; also commencing at the Southeast corner of said above-described tract, running thence South 50 feet to the wagon road, thence Northwesterly" along the said road to a point South. of the Wouthwest corner of said tract, thence North about 13 feet to the Southwest corner of said tract, thence East 206 feet, more or less„ to the place of beginning, situated in the County of Fulton, State of Illinois. 2. That a portion of the above described land was annexed to the City of Canton and that your Petitioner hereby petitions and requests the disconnection of same, or as much of said land that is presently incorporated in the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. 3. Petitioner further represents that said described land is upon the border, but within the corporate limits, of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois; that the same is a part of a larger tract of land heretofore annexed in Case Number 11673 in the County Court of Fulton County, Illinois, into the City of Canton, Illinois. 4. Petitioner further represents that the parcel of land sought to be disconnected is not laid out into municipal lots or blocks. 5. Petitioner further represents that there are no City taxes or Assessments due the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. W?'_EREFORE your Petitioner requests that the above described land, or as much of said land that is presently incorporated, be disconnected from the City of Canton, a municipal corporation, situated in the County of Fulton and State of Illinois. NAY: None. r Mayor Woods read a list of the accomnlishments which he expressed his wishes to fulfill during his term of office. 1. The parking problem must be considered, with provision of more parking places for customers of the merchants. ! 2. Jones Park could be made more beautiful and attractive by planting shrubbery, flowers and some young trees. 3. To furnish us with an adequate water supply a sixteen inch line should be brought in from Lake Canton, in case something happens to our water line and also for a larger reserve water supply. f 4. Dangerous corners on busy intersections should be eliminated by eon- tinuing our program of making the corners round. 5. A determined effort to secure a factory or factories for Canton. 6. Continue our road program, oil and fix secondary streets. 7. Additional street lights where needed. 8. Continue improvements and recreational facilities at Lake Canton, also map out additional. lots and restrict coves and upper portion of lake for fishermen. 9. Systemize through streets also have one-way traffic where needed. Y g Y 10. Revise present ordinance book, bring it up to date. These recommendations were filed with the City Clerk. Mr. Detweiler, a representative of the Seventh Day Advent Church, USA, asked *permission to hold a tag 6,ay for that organization on Friday, May 17th. Funds received were to be used throughout the nation. Alderman Miller moved that the request be denied, seconded by Alderman Turner. Mr. Marcus Young, President of Canton Industries, was granted permission to state his request for cooperation of the City Council with the Canton Industries in j their effort to .induce industries to locate in Canton. Mr. Young stated that a Peoria newspaper planned an advertisin`; idea t?at would cover a fifty-mile radius -- Canton Industries would be permitted to two full pages for +980.00 and asked the City Council if they cared to go along with some portion of sharing this expense and, at Mr. W oods questioning, suggested the City Council contribute $300.00. Alderman Turner made the motion that the City Council go along with the Canton Industries but not to exceed 8,400.00. Motion seconded by Mr. Lundry. Alderman Miller proposed a resolution of commendation to retiring members of the City Council.
