HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-17-1957 Council Meeting Minutes 2 2 a . Canton, Illinois April 17, 1957. s A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, `turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. Absent: Alderman Skinner. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood aonroved as read. "Annexation Ordinance" was read. It was moved by Alderman Sebree, seconded by Alderman Hill to suspend the rules. Roll call vote:AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, 'turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Swick to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. i Resolution transferring $3000.00 from the Parking Meter Fund to the Road and;' Bridge Fund; $5000.00 from the Sales Tax Fund to the Garbage Fund; and $3000.00 from the Sales Tax Fund to the General Fund, was on motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Hill, adopted by the following roll call vote: AYE: Alderman rr- Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. r^" Alderman Lundry moves, seconded by A lderman Smith, the City enter into a .-Y contract with the Illinois Bell Telephone Co., to provide tele-type machine for the j Police department, if other cities in adjoining County's furnish the same service, and the motion carried. Alderman Lundry moves, seconded by Alderman Turner, the Police & Fire Commission , be instructed to furnish a patrolman to serve during vacation periods, and the motion carried. i It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Cook, the Police & Fire Commission be instructed to furnish a fireman to serve during vacation periods, and the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Coleman, the Clerk obtain bids for the annual audit ending April 30, and the Committee be empowered to hire an auditor for same, if the bid is under $500.00 and the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Cook, the Treasurer publish his yearly report in detail, showing all receipts and disbursements. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner,'; Staley, Cook and Hill. Request for a Cancer Drive Tag Day on April 27, was on motion of Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman Smith, granted. Alderman Miller moves, seconded by Alderman Smith, to have drafted an ordinance Placing four-way stops at 2nd and Maple St., and the motion carried. The Mayor names to the canvassing board to canvas the election of April 16th, Alderman Smith, Coleman. and Tink. i The Council is recessed during the canvass.
