HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-20-1956 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois November 20, 1956 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman 5ebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller$ Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. Absent: Alderman Skinner and Tink. Minutes of the previous me eting were read and stood approved as read. Petition requesting vacating street known as Ave. E, connecting W. Chestnut Street and Edgewood Place, was on motion of Alderman Coleman, seconded by Alderman Smith, referred to the City Attorney and City Engineer to check on and report back. request of the Miller Auto Body for permission to install a 6000gal under- ground gas tank, was granted on motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alde naan Coleman, with the provisions that they comply with city Ordinances and State laws governing same, and same be approved by the Fire Chief and City Engineer. Communication from the Illinois Inspection Bureau, informing the City, that tests conducted on the new American-LaFrance pumper, has passed all acceptance tests, was on motion of Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman Miller, Accepted and ordered filed. A communication from the Village of Banner, requested the Council to consider entering into an agreement with them for Fire Protection. It was moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman Smith, toxefer this matter to the Water Committee, fire Chief and City Attorney, to meet with their Board and report back. The motion carried by a viva voce vote. A communication from the State Division of Highways, requested the city pass a "No Parking Ordinance" on the west side of Fifth Ave. at Linn Street, and on the north and south side of Linn St. at 5th ave. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Cook to comply with this request and that an Ordinance be drafted covering same. The motionoarried by a viva voce vote. Ordinance "Parking Meter hours" was read the first time. It was mowed by Alderman Hi112 seconded by Alderman Cook to suspend the rules. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Lundry, Swick, Smith, Turner, Cook and Hill. NAY: Alderman Sebree, Miller, Coleman and Staley. The chair declared the motion lost. Ordinance "Salaxyies-City Officiala" was read the first time. A representative of the Pittsburg Tank Co. addressed the council, offering a settlement of $2000.00 for damage to the water tank, with the provision that $1000.00 rt be paid for painting with four years. No action was taken on this matter. On motion of Alderman Staley, seconded b.; Alderman Smith, the meeting adjourned. it er
