HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-24-1956 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois July 24, 1956• An adjourned meeting of July 17, 1956, of the City Council, was held this day, convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M., in the City Council Chambers, with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alder- man Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. Absent: Alderman Duncan, Lundry and Skinner. Resignation of Alderman Duncan, as Alderman in the first ward, was accepted by the Mayor. NAY: None. It was then moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Hill, to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, , Staley, Cook, Jetoings and Hill. NAY: none. The chair declared Turner the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being ordinance No. 287. The Mayor appoints for a:)proval by the Council, Ralph Barnes as Census taker for the F, a . Cobleigh First Addition. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Hill to confirm the appointment, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Alderman Biller moves, seconded by Alderman Smith, the Clerk, be instruc- ted to open bids for the Construction of proposed sewage plant improvements, advertised for opening on this date, and the motion carried by a viva voce vo„e. The following two bids were opened and read: E. E. Maguire Const. Uo.,Monmouth, Ill.- - - - - -va,900.00 - Caldwell Engr. Co., Jacksonville, Ill. - - - - - -$39,525.00 It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Smith, to recess for 10 minutes to consider the bids. Upon reconvening a communication was read from the State Sanitary Board granting City permit to install and operate additions to the exisitng sewage treatment works in accordance with plans and specifications submitted by Crawford, `'urnhy and Tilly. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Hill, the -Mayor and City Clerk, 00 ow be authorized to enter into con5� 5gtwiththe bidder Caldwell for the Engr. Co. , of acksonville, for the sum of $39, construction of proposed sewage plant improvements. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, `turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried. Alderman Hill moves, seconded by Alderman Cook, to extend the time for Rural Fire protection to Jan, 1, 1957. Roll call vote: AYE. Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and hill. Nay: Alderman Staley. The chair declared the motion carried.
