HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-15-1956 Counciol Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois May 15, 1956• A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennirgs and Hill. Absent: Alderman Lundry. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. An "Agreement for Maintenance of City Streets" with the State Highway Dent. for the year June 30, 1956 to June 30, 1957, was on motion of Alderman Miller, seconded by Alderman Cook, approved by unanimous roll call vote. Lease and Agreement between the City of Canton and Edward Powell , for five years to rent and hire boats on Lake Canton and maintain a Concession Stand and Floating Dock, was on motion of Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman Staley, granted and the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to enter into contract with Edward Prnaell, vith option for renewal of lease at the expiration of the 5 year term. The motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Resolution for installation of street light at Pool Court and Sycamore Drive, was on motion of Alderman Sebree, seconded by Alderman Swick, adopted by the follow- ing roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan Sebree , Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. The chair de- clared the motdon carried and resolution ad-opted. Ordinance "Salary Meter Readers" was read the first time. It was moved by Alder- man Smith, seconded by Alderman Cook, to suspend the rules, and the motion carried by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: none. It was moved by Alder- men Smith, seconded by Alderman Cook, to place the Ordinance An its passage, being Ordinance No. 276. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebreek Swick, Smith , Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cool:., Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. The choir declared the motoih carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No.276. The following bonds were on motion of Aldermen Smith, seconded by Alderman Coleman, approved „nd ordered filed: Robert Derrickson, John Myers, Joe. Barclay, ps special policemen, and Carl Wolfe as Treasurer of Fire Department . Request of the 7th Day Adventist Church to hold tag day on May 18th, w,s on motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Jennings, granted. Alderman Staley moves, seconded by Aldermen Coleman, that Crawford, Murphy and Tilly be Jnstructed to proceed with plans and. specifications for improvements at the Sewer Treatment Plant at an estimated cost of $86,420.00. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. The chair dedlared the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman Cook, the Mayor and City Clerk enter into contract with the American-LAFrance Co. of Elmira, N. Y. for Fire ` Equipment and. Chassis, a,s per bid price submitted at previous meeting. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Swick, Smith, Skinner, Tink, Turner, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: Alderman Miller, Colemmn and Staley. The chair declared the motion carried. It wpm moved by Alderman Duncan, seconded by Alderman Sebree, thAt permit be granted to break the curb on the S. Side of Myrtle Street from KA.An Street east to edge of the Fred Carmack building. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner. NAY: Alderman Swick, Smith, Miller, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. The chair declared the motion lost. It was moved by Alderman Jennings, seconded by Alderman Cook, the Chief of Police be authorized to post signs directing traffic one way from the East corner of the Square to First Avenue on Chestnut Street, and placing stop-sign on the Kresgke Corner, for a. 30-day trial period, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote.
