HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-20-1955 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Iii. Sept. 20, 1955 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with MK70r Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following. present: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, 'undry, Swidk, Smith, Miller, Skinner, T ink, Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and Hill. Abseit: Alderman Staley. Minutes of zhe previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. Petition that the C'i_ty repeal the City Wheel tax was submitted, anion motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Coleman, was accepted and ordered placed on file. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Jennings, an Ordinance be drafted setting up the Sales Tax, to coincide with the State Sales Tax to be earmarked for -� Water Storage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, LuZry, Swick, Smith, M -� Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, 'turner, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: none. Alderman Cook moves, seconded by Alderman Sebrea, to abolish the Wheel Tax. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sabres, Swick, Tink and Gook. NAY: Alderman Duncan, Lundry, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Coleman, Turner, Jennings and Hill. AYE:-4; Nay-9. The chair declared the motion cered. It was moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman Cook, that $300.00 be paid from the Water Dept. "Lot lease money" for widening the road at the Water plant entrance, to the County, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Resolution directing the City Attorney to intervene in the proceedings before the Interstate Commerce Commission on application of joint owernship of the T.P.& W Railroad b y the Santa Fe and Pennsylvania Railroads, was on motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Coleman adopted by the following roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, 'turner, ook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Cook, to eliminate Daylight Savings Time, the last Sunday in Sept., and abide by the present Ordinance. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook and hill. NAY: Alderman Jennings. AYE:-12; NAY-1. The chaircbclared the motion carried. Ordinance "Reckless Driving" was read the first, time. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Jennings to suspend the rules. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Jmith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, "oleman, Turner,Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. Ordinance "Speed Restrictions" was read the first time. On motion of Alderman Lundry, seconded by Aldermn Smith, bids advertised for this date for push-over of the City Dump, were opened and read:, and referred to the Garbage '; Committee to reports back at the next meeting.
