HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-16-1955 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois Aug. 16, 1955 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7 :30 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings anti Hill. Absent: Alderman Duncan and Coleman. Minutes of the previous awn meeting were read and stood approved as read. Alderman Turner is excused. Resolution transferring $2500.00 from the General Dund to the Planning and Zoning Commission, was on motion ofAlderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Staley, adopted by the following vote: Aye; Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Ailler, Skinner, Tink, Staley, Cook, Jennings and hill. Nay: None. Ordinance "Hydrant Rental outside City" was read the second time. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Coon, to place the Ordinance on ita passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: none. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinace passed, being Ordinance No. 246. Ordinance '%heel Tqx violation fine" was read the first time. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Jennings, to suspend the rules, and the motion carried by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, sundry, Swick, Smith, mild= Skinner, Tink, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. Nay: Alderman Ailler. Alderman Staley moves, seconded by Alderman Jennings to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swiek,"Smith, Tink, Staley, Cook, Jennings and hill. NAY: Alderman Miller and Skinner, the Chair declared the motion carried and "rdinance passed, being Ordinance No. 247. Ordinance"Nstablishing members of Fire 01 Police Dept." was read the first time. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Jennings to suspend the reules. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Staley, Cook, Jennings and hill. Nay; None. The chairdeclared the motion carried. : Alderman Staley moves, seconded by Alderman hill to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call Vo.,e: Aye: Alderman Sebree, Lurd ry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Staley, Cook11i Jennings and Hill. Nay; None. The chair declared the motion carried a :.d Ordinance passed, being Ordinance Ao. 248. Bids on waterproofing, painting and repairs to the City iJuilding, advertised for opening on this date, were on motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Hill opened and read, as follows: Tri-State Waterproofing Co.- - - - - - -44,618.00 Eyman & Son- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -10..200.00 Acme Spray Painting- - - - - - - - - - - 3,500.00 The Mayor names Oliver Mettler to the Fire Commission to replace John Murphy, resigned. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Sebree, to accept the appointment, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Alderman Miller moves, Seconded by Alderman Jennings, the Police & Legal commi- ttee and Chief of rolice, check with power to act, on an Electric speed timing Radad device, and the motion carried by the ,f ollowing vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, cook, Jennings and Hill. Nay: Alderman Staley. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Je mings, an Ordinance be drafted setting a minimum fine of $25.00 and costs on reckless driving and speeding, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. The Canton Friendship Festival and Jr. Chamber of Commerce, were granted the use of Jones park to place balloting boxes in,tables for selling tickets during the Festival, on motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman unciry. It was moved by Alderman Jenningv, seconded by A1r_'.erman Smith, the Sewer & Water Committee be empowered to install water sewer facalities on 4th AvEnue, at ­aple and Walnut St., and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
