HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-19-1954 Council Meeting Minutes a 12 Canton, Illinois October 19, 1954 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:00 P. M. with Mayor woods presiding. Roll call showed the following Present: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, and Klobuchar. Absent: None. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. Petition of residents in the vicinity of Railroad street and 4th avenue, requesting the council take some action against the C. B. & Q Rwy.for permitting its engines to run motors when unncessary, was referred to the City Attorney and Chief of Police to take the matter up with the Railroad, on motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Tink. Petition by owners of property fronti ng on E. Locust St. from "lain to 5th Avenue, protesting the widening of same, was on motion of Alderman 14iller seconded by Alderman Sebree, accepted and ordered filed. On motion of Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Smith, the Garbage committee were instructed to contact the J.C 's in regard to the up-keep of garbage containers on the Square and report back. Alderman Lundry moves, seconded by Alderman Duncan, the C. I. P. 0. Uo. present an resolution to install street light at Hipple Ct. and Cass place, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. On motion )f Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Adore, it was voted to contact the C. I. F. S. Co. relative to having light poles at the inter- sections in Jones Park removed. Ordinance "Unlawful to park vehicle on N. Side of Locust St. from Main to Third Avenue, and unlawful to park vehicle on either side of Locust from Third -Ave. to Fifth Ave." was read the second time. It was moved by Alderman Miller, seconded by Alderman Sebree, to table the Ordinance. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, More, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook. NAY: Alderman Staley and Klobuchar. The chair declared the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Moore, seco ed by Alderman klobuchar, an Ordinance be prepared, prohibiting parking on the sidesof Locust Street, from Third to Fifth Avenue. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Miller, Smith, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar. NAY: -Alderman Lundry, Linder and Skinner. AYE:-10; NAY-3. The chair declared the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by -Alderman Klobuchar, to take off the table Ordinance "Unlawful to park vehicle on E. Side of Fifth Avenue from Locust to Linn St." Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Moore, Staley, and Klobuchar. NAY: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman and Cook. AYE-4; NAY-9. `1h e chair declared the motion lost. Ordinance "Stop sign at Walnut and Ave. DP was read the first time. Ordinance "Yield-Right-of-Way at Chestnut and Ave. D" was read the first time. Ordinance "Stop sign at Sixth and E. Pine St." was read the first time. `'rdinance "Unlawful to park on N. side of WestAsh St." was read the first time.
